This article seems to indicate that Gen 1 will receive a launch mode of some variety:

Relevant quote from the link:
”In his responses, Bensaid confirmed that the highly anticipated launch mode, which enables a 0-60 mph acceleration in just 2.5 seconds, will be available for Gen 1 vehicles.”

Very interesting if true.

Didn't get a chance to try this yet, but everyone's been saying we already have launch mode. Just hold the brake, press the accelerator full, then let go of the brake. The new one is just a fancy animation that goes with it and adds more drama.

Launch mode also give you performance stats and enables a higher top speed

It appears that the article is based on this Reddit thread.

If I read it correctly Wassym said that he'll take the feedback, I haven't seen him saying anywhere that it's coming.

It also presets the suspension height, and probably the stability control.

If you didn't already know.

1. Sport mode
2. Lowest ride height
3. stability control reduced
4. Hard hold on brake (if not hard enough the truck will move forward and fight brakes)
5. Steering wheel straight
6. Accelerator to 100%
7. Release brake

Do all this for best launch. My assumption is launch control presets 1-3 above, then the green lights confirm 4-6 and instructs 7.

Agree. wassym did not confirm this. I take it as he will take it into consideration. All these different articles with misleading information is so annoying. Anything for a click

Launch mode on Gen 1 will not give a higher speed, because that is limited to tire spec's, not software. The GEN 2 vehicles with Staggered 22's will be the only ones rated to run a full 1/4 mile.. Launch mode doesn't do much for me, unless I can run the full 1/4 mile without a top end limiter.

So, what accounts for the difference in the quad-motor 0-60 time between Gen1 (3.0 secs) and Gen2 (2.5 secs)? Is it just software, not the new Rivian motors?

It's both. The new motors have more horsepower and torque but you need software that will allow the higher top speed with the appropriate tires/motor gearing.

My guess is that we get launch mode in the gen 1 trucks. Like others have said, it's just software and drama. While you obviously won't get the faster time, you would get all the fun animations and stuff that go along with it.

What I'm hoping for is the ability to get the tire setup from the Gen 2 quad max and enable more performance (grip and top speed) out of the Gen 1 trucks.

As hard as they make it to swap out tires/ wheel configurations as it is... I wouldn't hold your breath.

With all the negativity, I want to suggest my simple answer. I believe it is possible to increase both speed and HP with the same motors that are in my R1T Launch Quad Edition. To do this in an ICE car you would certainly have to make mechanical changes and maybe slap on some racing tires. However, with DC electric motors you can increase Power by increasing Current, and the Current can be increased by making some software changes. Simply put, the Software (the brains) controls the Current allowed to the motors; the Current controls the amount of Power (with constant voltage); and Power produces the Speed and Torque. This is essentially how our accelerator pedal performs. Power = Voltage x Current. Increasing Power means increased Speed and Torque. So, I see no reason why the torque, speed, and thermal management of our Gen1 versions couldn’t be increased by a simple OTA update to our software. I remain positive.
