I was discussing this with a buddy the other day. I love my quad motor, but I can't think of a single situation where I've ever felt like I needed more than 835hp, nor can I think of a time where 500+ hp wouldn't have done the job either.I guess if you like bragging the 1000 hp is cool. Honestly as an owner of a quad I would be fine with the regular DM even. But at the time of purchase it was only $500 difference in price for me.
Insurance didn't like the 800hp I can only imagine the penalty at 1000
Cool / fun to have, but extremely limited usage in practice (unless you enjoy buying new tires once a month, which I don't).
I still think we'll see a paid upgrade pathway for the processing hardware (similar to what Tesla offers), but I would be absolutely shocked to see an upgrade pathway offered by Rivian for audio & can't recall a time when an auto company has ever done widespread, post-sale audio upgrades (paid or otherwise).Hopefully they will also make this a paid retrofit upgrade for existing owners now happy with their current audio.
(I'm still hopeful that some aftermarket companies will make an easy upgrade path for the Rivs. I'm not interested in just a subwoofer upgrade.)
Also have to keep in mind how strained the service centers are already, so it's possible that alone will preclude any upgrade paths altogether.
