Elon Musk ONCE AGAIN, shows us exactly where his priorities are and it’s not with his customers. His tantrums and erratic decision making are why the board needs to remove this guy.

I think the OEMs that signed up for NACS and drivers of non-Tesla's should be very concerned. NACS will not be their saving grace as far as charging infrastructure. Ford and Rivian got access, but what about the other OEM's? GM should be next, but will it? Will any other OEM's near term or long term? I have heard Ford just sent out an email stating the NACS adapters will be delayed. I think the consortium of OEM's developing EV charging stations (Ionna) should step up and very quickly or the BEV adoption rate will surely suffer. Full disclosure: I own a Tesla and soon a Rivian.
Agreed. This does not bode well for the future of the Supercharger network. I could see the rationale to reduce the size of the supercharger team and slow deployments given Tesla’s slowing sales.

But axing the whole team is going to have knock-on effects for reliability, availability, and reputation. Not immediately, but soon enough.

And the CCS networks have gotten a LOT better since the NACS announcement. How many charging drama posts were we seeing a year ago compared to today?

The automakers won’t decide anything today, but I can see them questioning the NACS decision before cars start rolling off the assembly line.

Keep an eye out for a Forrest Green R1S in Fargo. My FIL just took delivery Saturday :)
Silver R1T soon. This Tesla Supercharger fiasco has me concerned. Just traded in my F150 Powerboost Hybrid I used for towing. I hope it was not a mistake.

Yeah...once we got NACS, my FIL pulled the trigger. He should be fine. 1-94 to the Twin Cities has many options with NACS, CCS, and Magic Dock.

I think this whole thing is a big nothing-burger. It's fairly common knowledge among Tesla owners that the supercharger network has had some issues lately (think EA) and Musk seems to be forcing change to bring the standards back up to what they've been in the past. And no matter how you slice it, the Tesla Supercharger network is still leagues above anything else out there in terms of access, locations, and reliability.

This is not a nothing burger. Especially when you look at the comments from people in the industry.

A nothing burger would be a slowdown in new locations, not cutting the entire team. It's great if they want to work on the reliability of the existing chargers but cutting the new location team means they are done with expanding the network and expect others to take over. This means at some point the supercharger network will be over taken by others (hopefully) and will be less and less relevant.

Hmm… yeah, well we’ll see. From the article you referenced:

“Rebecca Tinucci, Tesla's Senior Director of Charging Infrastructure said: “At Tesla, we’re driven to enable great charging experiences for all EV owners. Selling our fast-charging hardware is a new step for us, and one we’re looking to expand in support of our mission to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy. We appreciate bp’s partnership in this area – it’s the right step towards a more sustainable future.”

… or so says Ms. Tinucci… the FORMER Senior Director of Charging Infrastructure…

What is not really debatable is that Tesla's BOD is not exercising its primary function to ensure that the company operates in a responsible and effective manner.
With the NACS and Supercharger stuff going on, Elon's actions and the board's control affect all EV owners now, not just Telsa owners.

Regardless of the business case for any reduction or restructure, the manner in which this was communicated (3 AM email to senior execs.), the dire warning to other executives to accelerate layoffs, and the promise of future chaos do not inspire confidence. There are real costs to having a chaos agent as your CEO. Business partner quality will go down, terms will be harsher, things will take longer than they should. What a mess.

Time will tell. Let's see if the supercharger network improves or declines. My bet is that it will improve, albeit at a slower pace as the team is rebuilt.

Do you think the entire team was axed with no intentions of rebuilding said team? I don't think that's the case at all.
