Hello,

I picked up R1S yesterday. All looks great except the estimated miles displayed on the dashboard. My configuration is dual + large + 21 inches, so I expected the estimated miles with a 100% battery charge as 352 miles, but the dashboard says it will be 315 miles. I contacted a service center today to figure it out, and they said it is a matter of driving habit. They recommended me to wait for a couple of weeks to see if the estimated range will get recovered as it picks up my driving habit. I don't quiet understand their recommendation since the shortened estimated range of 315 miles was already there even before I drive the car. So, I would like to ask you if it is a common situation that everyone experiences at the time of picking up the car?

"This behavior is by design" as Microsoft likes to say. It already has miles on it from testing and delivery and the algorithm has that little bit of information as your driving history consisting of short "trips", probably some hard acceleration and high speed in testing, so it's already "learned" under less than optimal conditions. Also, you need to have realistic expectations. The estimated miles you are seeing documented is the EPA estimate. Just like ICE cars, it's unlikely you will reach/exceed that unless you drive conservatively in a flat area on long trips with perfect weather. Expect to see your range drop in bad weather. That's normal too.

352 miles is the EPA estimated range, that isn't necessarily what Rivian puts on the guess-o-meter.

FWIW 315 miles is probably closer to real world conditions vs the ideal scenario.

Thanks to everyone who added comments here. It was right, as others have said here, the estimate range is just that: the estimate range. I reset the history and it went up to 341 miles. ?
By “resetting the history” did you zero out the trip meters? If not what is the process to do this?

Yes, that’s right. It recalculates the estimated range as soon as you reset it.
