And $102k this evening is still $2k more than $100K this morning. It seems like some existing owners have forgotten what it's like for those of us who are still waiting for the opportunity to actually buy one. Everyone screamed and yelled in March '22 because it affected them (as they should of), but now they have no sympathy for the people that are desperately trying to buy a Rivian but still can't.

If I can't get a quad motor in the shop matching most of my config (colours and wheels), I will cancel the order... and the other I placed for the R2. If it takes them years to ramp up R2 production as they did for R1, people should just wait to see what is inventory when they are available so they don't just build a book of orders with a small deposit to impress the capital markets.

Would be a great way to force people into the standard pricing for the refresh. Perhaps refreshed vehicles simply wouldn't be available on the R1 shop until October? Rivian does think they can make the R1 profitable this year after all. Q4 numbers need to reflect that.

They do mention that they will allow customer orders in late summer after the retooling:

Custom Configurations
Until later this summer, we will not be fulfilling custom configurations while we prepare for some retooling and improvements at our plant. During this time, we are temporarily pausing access to the configurator and you will not be able to place custom orders.

They told the financial world that they will have positive gross margins in Q4. Missing that guidance will only tank the stock further and impede their ability to raise additional funding for R2 and R3. The Sept 30 date is zero coincidence. This has less to do with anything about the refresh and more to do with meeting their guidance. Q4 needs to be a clean quarter with the factory running at full capacity producing vehicles at the new lower cost structure and selling them all at the highest price possible.

As for outrage, you were never "owed" the pre-hike pricing. Rivian has given you more than two years already to cash in on their amazing offer. No one in their right mind should expect Rivian to continue to sell at 2018 prices in 2024 or beyond.

The only outrage seems to be from VSG, who admits he was outraged at Rivian when they tried to make *his* truck more expensive, but now that he's happily driving around in his price-protected Rivian, he's outraged that those of us still waiting want the same price. We aren't all dragging our feet. I would have bought 2 years ago if I could have.

I had a similar impression from his monograph. Like he’s salivating at the fact we have a deadline now…for the greater good no less.

Just chatted with customer service. They effectively confirmed that the timeline will not allow for the 20% voucher to apply to post-refresh custom vehicles.

I was willing to buy at the higher price, had no plans on backing out when the price (that by the way was an estimate and not guaranteed) went up, pretty sure them holding those lower prices cost me more in Rivian Stock than I saved, probably will make much back over time but still…

Excluding inflation, even if you put 100k in the bank in 2022 at a meager 2% you would have made 4k. Looking at what the cost was this morning verses this afternoon is really not a fair comparison.

I understand the disappointment between this morning and this afternoon but look at the bigger picture and see what you are still saving instead of the meager loss.

At the very least, any sub-$80k variant should qualify for 50% of the IRA EV tax credit.

People are missing the fact that ANYONE with preorder now qualifies for the $7500 tax credit! Just take it as a lease, and immediately buy it out. You don't need a 2022 tax amendment, you get DOUBLE what you would as a purchase, and you get even more discounts taking a dual motor now!

We're happy to opt to dual motor, no Performance or quad needed for the second vehicle, and what was once $75k after half tax credit is now $62k! Might be trading in the brand new Rav4 Prime!

I get it, appreciate your points, and generally agree with the gist of it. But not everyone was prepared to pay substantially more than what they signed up for. Rivian didn't need to honour any pricing, and I appreciate they did. And many (if not most) reservation holders benefitted from that. But there are some that have also been PAINFULLY waiting for a truck, and this just feels like another gut punch.
