Watching the MB video it is clear that there are things that he has identified as serious issues that he is dancing around to avoid angering Tesla for future access. Most of them have to do with practicality but some are safety issues as well (sharp corners, inability to see in front of him). There is no way my wife would consider letting my 2 year old anywhere near one of these as it would almost certainly end in a trip to the hospital.

Okay.. this IMO takes the cake for really poor design!

The drive selector buttons are up at the ceiling above the rear view mirror (mirror not shown in this video)!! Try reaching those buttons with a heavy winter jacket on..

And if true, even worse- according to this reviewer (at the 20m45sec mark) the rear view mirror (again not shown in this video) is not electronic and does not have a rear facing camera feed so when the tonneau is closed the mirror is 100% obscured. The reviewer goes on to say the rear view while underway is displayed on the main vehicle screen (meaning you have to look down from the road to see it).

Drive selector is on the screen like the S and X and I think now the model 3 highland. The overhead is a secondary way to control gears increase of center screen failure and also the way teslas are shifted in Valet mode.

I hated the gear selector via the screen soooo much on the MS. It takes like 3 times as long as to do a three point turn. Can’t imagine doing this when trying to navigate off-road paths on the CT.

Wow, it did indeed smoke the R1T on the drag strip. I put myself on the waitlist too. It's refundable and just $250, so no real downside, although highly doubt I'll get one. Maybe in a year that shape will feel more 'normal'. I do like the fact that it can power by house. We already have tesla solar panels and powerwall, so it integrates with that.
the cyberbeast might be faster than the R1T in the drag strip, but that video was not an accurate representation. how hard can it be to have them start at the same time!?!

The CT has some interesting tech in the steering department, but is it "better"? Four wheel steering can improve handling on a sports car, or maneuverability on a long wheelbase car. The CT may need this to match the R1T given that the CT wheelbase is much longer. R1 sport mode is pretty well connected, without the complexity.

As for drive-by-wire, I'd rather not. This likely isn't a positive for spirited driving when compared to a mechanical connection to the wheels, the same way that independent drive motors (e.g. the R1 quad setup) isn't better than a real mechanical diff for off-roading.

Just because the tech is new(ish) doesn't mean it's better. Some of the best tech in autos happens to be the simple tried and true yet highly evolved stuff.

This is basically what I was thinking too. I think it's probably better at some things, but worse for others. Tesla is already known for not so great steering feel. I wonder if this actually feels any worse.

I imagine any damage that is outside of the realm of paintless dent repair will require full panel replacement.
Getting it insured could be a nightmare at first. The windshield is the largest ever made.

Tesla probably got into insurance for the challenge of insuring self driving. But that choice may be beneficial for insuring the CT

Racing the 911 seemed like BS as well.

A base 992 Carrera runs a 11.5 second 1/4 mile. Jason was getting 11.0 seconds for the Cybertruck when racing the R1T. But the Cybertruck towing a 3500lbs 911 was able to beat the 992 Carrera? So towing the 911 only added 0.5 seconds to it's 1/4 mile time?

Drive by wire is probably o.k. for piloting a large watercraft. I'll just let that one hang out there for a bit...

But reviewers of some of the current systems found them very odd. Imagine slowing down quickly (e.g. spirited driving) and having the steering ratio change to "parking lot mode". It's not good.

All this "CT is better at doing x" talk needs to be seriously qualified by actual reviews. I expect the CT will do o.k., and software can be used to improve both the CT and RT over time.

3 motor Cybertruck vs Quad R1T with AT wheels (closest match)

CT is better at:
1. speed / performance
2. steering
3. better bed (longer, better mounting points, actual auto Tonneau cover that exists and is stronger than the one that came on the original R1T)
4. Onboard power (by a lot)
5. Durability - let's be real, the R1T material is super thin and fragile.
6. Road noise / ride quality - only going off this video, so reserve the right to change my opinion, but the R1T has more squeaks and rattles than any new car I've ever own.
7. Range - by a lot (again quad R1T with AT vs 3-motor CT)
I assume you are talking about the Beast Mode configuration. That starts at 100k and not sure what options from there. Not sure what tires these numbers are for so the fair comparison would have to be to compare the numbers as reported with the standard tires.

Rivian Quad Large 87k
CT Beast Mode. 100k

Range
Rivian 328
Ct 320

Speed
Rivian 3.0 0-60 /314 top speed
CT 2.6 with rollout deducted probably 2.8 / 130 top speed

Onboard power, not even close CT has this

The rest on your list is speculative, would need to test drive to see. I know my Model S has held up pretty well but has more squeaks than my R1S.

CT is not for me but hope Tesla does well with it for the employees and investors. Market seemed pretty flat on release news.
