Wow, it did indeed smoke the R1T on the drag strip. I put myself on the waitlist too. It's refundable and just $250, so no real downside, although highly doubt I'll get one. Maybe in a year that shape will feel more 'normal'. I do like the fact that it can power by house. We already have tesla solar panels and powerwall, so it integrates with that.

I would also imagine that a collision repair on this is going to be anything but routine. It's one thing to precision-fit panels on an assembly line; quite another to hand-assemble.

LOL...As one of the first people to put a deposit on a Rivian back in Nov. 2018, I'm not trolling, just open-minded and not ignorant. There are Zero other OEMs that use 48v electrical systems in their cars or trucks. Zero!
Great. Your list is now whittled down to 48v. Hold onto that tightly :CWL:

I didn't say Tesla "invented" any of this...Tesla is more like Apple... they take what others have tried and improve on it.
How did they “improve” on those things they “took”? Be specific please.

Saw the video. Pros, cons. Not enough upside to compensate for the looks, functional purpose of design, and poor off-roading capabilities based on other published videos.

Also, steer by wire + rear wheel steering isn’t great for off-roading. Too unpredictable to follow specific lines on paths.

Last, I can’t ever support Tesla anymore so long as Elon is there

While I can appreciate some of the advancements in engineering, there’s just so many LOL pieces of the vehicle I can’t look past. It’s like their engineers just quit about halfway through development.

  • Tiny frunk
  • Hilarious spare tire storage
  • Windows that went from bullet proof to “rock resistant”
  • it’s not a boat
  • horrible lines of sight, especially out the back
  • Material that will be impossible to keep looking nice
  • To get even 80% of the promised range, you have to sacrifice 1/3 of your truck bed (and can’t have a spare tire)
And just the straight up lying by the company you’re supporting With your purchase. I mean, like half the shit that was promised was vapor and now it costs 40% more than you were told.
You forget the infamous "Range Extender," that takes up a large portion of the bed and weighs 900 pounds +/- But Elon says it's "Plug and Play," so it must be true... :like:

800v and 48v are more hype today than actual real purpose.

In both cases, you don’t have the ecosystem to support them. V4 chargers aren’t ubiquitous enough. Tesla is even limiting CT charging speeds at 250kw today.

48V, very few third party devices support them.

Rivian is likely moving towards them in 2026 when Peregrine project launches. By then, perhaps there will be at least more chargers that can use 800v

So you are partially correct.

Many (if not all automakers) offer 48V systems for mild hybrids, anti-roll bar systems, and other 48V accessories. However they still use a 12V system for the low voltage accessories.

Tesla is the first to switch everything to the 48V system.

So have your cookie. Still not a game changer.

Well, there you go. Thank you for finding one! Maybe GM read Tesla's book they sent to each CEO encouraging them to make the switch to 48v to get the whole manufacturing ecosystem to move on from 12v. Thank you for the info
Just to be clear, a huge number of cars today have 48V systems on board in combination with the 12V system.

Tesla might be the first to convert everything to 48V, but definitely not the first to add a 48V system.

Edit: Every Volvo today that is not an EV uses a48V mild hybrid system. Most cars with start/stop technology use 48V systems.
