We had an early snow in October and the stock tire on the 22s just didn’t cut it for me. I decided to get snow tires put on for the season by SJ Tire. These guys are great, they can make the swap right in your driveway.

I installed the Michelin Ice X on the 22”rims. I’ve not had a chance to try them on snow, but after driving around this past week, I see no degradation in ride quality or efficiency.

if you’re planning to head up into the mountains, this winter, I would recommend putting some snows on!

My wife runs Michelin X-Ice on her Forester XT (I ran them on my Subaru STI)--fantastic winter tires!

Installed the same 22” X-Ice’s on my R1S!

After doing a ton of research, I think they are the best option out there.

Going to be a fun winter!

I'm jealous. I attempted to buy Ice-X 275/60/20 but the store told me the weight rating wasn't suffucient. It was 115 but I needed 116 XL's.

Rivian used to spec the stock 22 OEM tires as 115. They moved them to 116. But I literaly have 115s on my truck from the factory as we speak, so this shouldn't be an issue.

I have the Michelin X-Ice's ready to install, likely early December!

Just show them that Rivian also ships the 22s in 115. TireRack called me after ordering to confirm and I clarified that with them and they were fine.

What store?
Just ordered a set through Tire Rack. Had to change the shipping address to my mechanic and C/O me to avoid listing the R1S as the vehicle. Will mount on Ram 2363 20" rims.
They do have very limited supply and have seen them go in and out of inventory over the past 3 weeks.

115's are probably fine but the stores I tried would not install them. I attempted to explain that 115's were stock on several vin's but to no avail. Michelin released the all-season LTX/MS2's with updated load. Hoping they do that for Ice-X or I'll need to find some black market installer. I admit I could probably find SOMEONE who would do it but annoying Rivian made winter tires that much tougher to source. Other option is to get heavy (65 series XL) truck snow tires.

Yes - I ran into the same issue on getting mine installed at Costco.

I tried to explain the 115 vs 116 issue, that the weight rating was fine, etc. but rules were rules in their book (understandable, no reason for them to grant an exception for me).

Luckily… I had purchased a second set of 22” wheels. Costco installed them on the loose wheels only because they weren’t on the vehicle. They said they would not service them on the vehicle (no prob for me).

So, in the end - success! Seems like it is up to the tire center manager - your results may vary.

I can't believe some of these shops are not willing to install the 115s when I literally have stock 115s on my truck as we speak. I'm sure we can find a spec sheet that would represent this as well.

That is nuts. They must be terrified of legal liability if they install the wrong tires on a vehicle. I bet they are also only allowed to go by what it says in their systems and would refuse even if they were shown proof it was fine. At the chain stores they probably are not allowed to override that, which does make some bit of sense. If some goofy 17 year old tire installer at Costco approves the wrong tire and it causes a failure it's on Costco, not the goofy 17 year old.

FWIW Tirerack was willing to do it after some prodding.

Long Story:
I ordered the new 20" MSW wheels and was going to get the X-ICE installed at Costco, but decided to see if Tirerack would do it after reading some comments on here about Costco.

Chat immediately said they would not as it did not meet load rating in their system and the 275/60/20 was smaller diameter than the OEM 275/65/20.

I mentioned that my 22's have 115 tires installed and the 275/60/20 was within .3% diameter. I offered to send photos and he said the team would have what they needed and he'd check with them. E-mailed me an hour later and said he was given the OK. Wheels, Tires, TPMS and Tax ended up being a bit over $2800

Man, when my truck was new (last March 2022) the 22's were serviceable in the snow. Now, they absolutely are NOT. I am down to 4-5 32nds on most of the tires and was slipping and sliding all over the place last night - this truck is just too heavy. I am trying to ride out putting on my snow tires as long as possible because I don't see any point to save these stock Pirelli tires in their current state, but might need to get them on soon....
