Hi, I am a new R1S owner. I notice one thing yesterday when I was waiting in the car for my son's class to complete. I was not actively using any feature (e.g. AC, bluetooth audio, etc) while the screen and inside lights were on. I didn't expect a big consumption of battery but noticed that the mileage dropped 2 miles after 1 hour. This won't happen when I park the car without people inside. I am wondering what could have contributed to the battery usage and whether there is way for me to put the car in low energy consumption mode (just like regular parking without people inside). Thanks.

Unfortunately, No. This is why I personally wish it had an on/off option to change how a user engages with it. Currently, there is no way to "not engage" with it if you're in it.

I am not trying to sound funny here. But 2 miles in an hours is not that much. That’s about 1 KWh of power. So if electricity is say $0.20/kwh then it cost you $0.20 for an hour. Plus if you are waiting around it sounds like you are close to your home. So you plug in the nights your feel you need to. Trust me you won’t miss the 2 miles around town. This is why we LOVE our EVs. We can even have climate control and use all the features and not feel like we have to keep an engine running. Enjoy the beauties of having an EV. Use the climate control. Just plug in. Again, not trying to be combative just trying to maybe help people see the beauties of why EVs are okay to use differently that ICEs.

I agree on both counts. It's not much power but I think it would also be good to have a"power off" button like Tesla has on their vehicles. Tesla will also go to sleep after I believe 30 minutes even if your inside. The screen dims when it's getting ready to sleep and you have to tap screen to keep it awake.

Rivian should take a page out of Tesla book here.

Yeah it bugs me that the headlights stay on while parked. And sometimes I’d still like to listen to music and/or have climate control while parked.

seriously I don’t know why the headlights stay on I’m pretty sure there wasn’t a setting for headlights while parked.

I've had Teslas for 8 years. At first I was very concerned about energy consumption but over time I became more relaxed after realizing that the environmental control systems used relatively very little power. Now I just leave everything on automatic and the car does a great job of keeping the car comfortable summer and winter.
Just relax and enjoy fully automated luxury.

FYI, you can fully turn off the headlights when parked using the headlight switch on the left stalk. You can also turn off the parking and DRLs. You can technically turn off the main screen using the camp mode or screen clean feature.

While I too wish the car had an on/off switch that's mostly so I can leave it on with a sleeping teenager or spouse while I grab something from a rest stop.

The biggest battery drain while motionless is HVAC and if you turn that off the battery drain would be negligible. Or just deal with using some electrons... still miles ahead of keeping an ICE car idling for an hour, right?

The battery drain is not negligible. If I don't touch my R1S for a day it will often consume around 2% battery or 2.5 kWh of energy.

That is up to 10% of my total home electricity use -- for the car to do nothing!

Camping I have seen up to 10% battery loss overnight just to maintain a very moderate temperature.

Not everyone can charge at home (I can’t). And why would anyone “trust” you on something so subjective? Such an odd thing to say. I think I am perfectly capable of deciding if I am going to miss 2 miles or not.
