Used to an ICE vehicle that creeps and their brain forgot that instead of letting up on the brake to creep forward, they were pushing down on the accelerator. Needed to brake to slow the creep down, so they pushed harder. Then stomped on it when it wasn't braking.

Could very well be. The only other explanation is software glitch ?

I’m just thinkin’ the driver wasn’t paying attention when they rear ended the other car. At that point they panicked and accidentally hit the accelerator.

I think this is a PR stunt from Rivian
Given that basically the brand recognition is zero in my vicinity I think this will help more people to realize there is a brand called 'Rivian'.

Last year a lot of people, myself included, switched to the 21's to take delivery sooner. This guy having the tonneau would point to a last year's truck. Rivian had supply chain issues at points last year and were only shipping 21's

Many of those older, frugal drivers have reserved their Rivian with 20" wheels and plan to swap out the supplied AT tires with less expensive All Seasons immediately upon delivery, offsetting the acquisition cost of the AS's by selling off a set of near-new Pirelli Scorpion's. Don't ask me how I know this.

Seriously though, hope no one was hurt.
