Was originally in the market for a new Ford Raptor or RAM TRX but had a change of heart after doing the usual research and reading and thought "Why not? This could be fun..."
To be clear, the R1T, fully loaded, comes in at the same or higher price than both of these other vehicles (not a fair comparison I know, but subjectively what I was in the market for). The R1T I got off the Rivian online shop has a total MSRP of $101,250 . .... dang. Exact breakdown attached.

No dealer ADM with Rivian. Also, imo, R1T is a much better vehicle than either ICE car, unless you’re far away from charging or need to tow long distances.
Fair enough, although the quotes I got was without ADM (that is slowly residing when you search far enough). For the use case, the R1T definitely fits the bill better. However, will I get as much passion out of it as I did from my Gen1 or Gen2 Raptor? We'll see...

How much higher are we taking about? Would be cool to see what your Raptor/TRX configs. come out to.

I believe you’ll find a lot of people here who would say “yes” to that question.

Do you really need the max pack? Many of us thought we did at first but after seeing real world results from others and thinking about my usage I realized I didn’t need it.

But even at $101k you are buying an electric truck with no dealer BS and saying goodbye to gas stations forever unless you need snacks or bathroom breaks.

Unless you REALLY need the extra range, I’d drop the Max pack and just go with the Large pack. A used quad motor with Large pack is a compelling purchase at current market prices.

Yep. When we get to configure, we are just going with the basic 73 grand. That is alot of money--but still cheaper than a Ford Lightening with the heated and ventilated seats.

I agree with some of the others above. Quad Motor with the large pack is the way to go if your looking at Raptors and TRX. 835 HP and a max of 347 miles of range on large pack in conserve mode. Max pack is an extra $10,000.

The TRX and Raptor are also very expensive. The Ram TRX will be close to $100K and a V8 Raptor will be well above $100K.

Drop the Max Pack and Forest Edge interior and the R1T compares very favorably from a pricing perspective.

I never cared much for the 0-60 time of either Raptor or TRX. I always cared more about the torque, sound, feel et cetera... I never redlined my raptors (but came close several times). I used to have a Model S P90D with ~300 miles range and it just annoyed the crap out of me. So the way I approached the R1T was "Let me just get the max possible range". Cosmetic upgrades are subjective... I wouldn't have bought a raptor with standard interior either. I can't get over black leather seats. It bores me and if I have to sit in that vehicle for 3-5 years, why not opt for what you really like?

On a side note, the Enduro dual-motor performance model is faster than both TRX and Raptor. So no need for the even faster Quad Motor even in the above case.

That’s fair. But it’s worth pointing out that your preferences (not needs) are what got your price to $101k. If you don’t need the extra range and can handle a very nice black mountain interior you instantly save yourself $17,050 and still get a much better vehicle than a TRX or Raptor.

Rivian gave you options to keep your price down and you chose to go a different route. That isn’t their fault.

And if the sound of a Raptor/ TRX is what you want, this might not be the vehicle for you. I also love the sound of a raptor but I would never buy one.

The quad is still going to have more torque than the dual. It's all personal preference but I've driven a TRX and while it was cool I'll take my R1T any day of the week. It's not even in the same league as far as functioning as a daily driver. I see in your bio you have had quite a few bigger trucks so I can see why you're a little apprehensive of the Rivian.

If you're going to buy it and give it a fair shake I think you'll be happy with it but you need to go into it knowing it will be an adjustment. The Raptor and the TRX are both far more aggressive trucks. You'll have to have the mindset that what you're giving up in aggressiveness you're gaining in usability. The R1T has the power and performance of those other trucks, better even, but when you just want an easy driving, quiet daily commuter the R1 is leaps and bounds better.

Think of days you have a headache, or slept badly or are stuck in traffic. The R1T will feel like a dream car compared to those other two yet all it takes is a press of the go pedal and it will snap to attention. Or you could press a couple buttons on the mode screen and you're a jacked up rock crawler with the best of them.

As other's have said I would also drop the max pack. For the additional money I just don't think the value is there. Also I also thought I would really miss the sound of the high performance vehicles but I found a new sound to love. Simon and Garfunkel style, the sound of silence is pretty great.
