Haven't had a negative reaction yet, but had a few folks asking questions about it and wanted to take a look inside for themselves. Happy to oblige every time.

I deal with the same thing as OP on a weekly basis, it's annoying as hell. They are running out of excuses at the moment, I've heard everything from evs can't do the speed limit to they now cost more to operate than gas vehicles, throw in the ol' there aren't enough resources to make batteries and top it off well my gas car can drive 700 miles on a tank. I always tell them the same thing, I've had nothing but evs for 7 plus years, never had an issue and I'll never go back to gas. If you don't drive alot they make less sense but if you're the type of person that has a new car every couple years or leases they are foolish not to get one.

I noticed something interesting after the third or fourth conversation with a total stranger about my T and I'm curious if it's just me or if this is common.

It always starts off harmlessly with s stranger asking "what made you decide to go electric?" Or something.

And I give my canned spiel about being in the middle of COVID shutdowns when I started to look for an F150 and found I'd have to wait for... Who knows how long and realized I could wait for a Rivian, instead, for the same price, yadda yadda yadda.

But then comes the thing.

"Oh ok so you bought it for (reasons). I just wanted to make sure you didn't buy it for environmental reasons like SOME people."

Like, who do you think you are, random stranger!? What do you care? You don't think for this amount of money and a paradigm shift I didn't do the logic? I'm well aware that it's not the most efficient EV and I plan on having it long enough to break even on carbon emissions for a comparable vehicle - on top of having a badass truck.

It's just so WEIRD to me that people JuSt WaNt To Be SuRe...

Maybe so they can somehow rationalize rolling coal out of their Ramrod 2500.

One way to counter this sort of stuff is to opem by jokingly say something like "I wanted to counter big oil propaganda by putting my money where my mouth is... Ha, ha".

If their motive is to put forward an anti electric vehicle view, the onus would then be on them.

Sounds like that guy just wanted to argue about it being good for the environment. I am not worried about convincing folks like this. If they ask I tell them the reasons why I bought it. While I do care about the environment that isn't the main reason I purchased.

There is yet another group that is irritated at the fact folks can get tax credits. They feel its taking money from them...etc. You can't win these arguments...I just try to stick with my facts...if they want to argue I give them 5 mins and then move on. The argumentative folks already have their minds made up anyway before you even open your mouth.

The government incentives turn things political unfortunately.

The weird one I keep getting is I show people the truck then its a conversation of well I wouldn't be able to buy one because... and what if I wanted to drive across the country in a day blaa blaa. Most of the people I know for a fact I take my Rivian on more long road trips then they do their ice vehicle and they would be fine. But its come down to I dong care what you buy the Rivian is fantastic for me and my needs and that's all I really care about honestly.

What is happening right now, with the politicization of EVs, is propaganda from the Oil and Gas industry.

It's turned some of the typical social media mouth breathers, absolutely insane about EVs. First thing a right leaning idiot that I know on IG said to me "you're killing kids because of that car"

in the comma states (coast line states) I find that it’s generally accepted to drive an EV no matter your political standing. It’s places in the middle of the country that they have more judgement and compare to politics. Honestly I love the fact that I can drive my EV to a trendy Portland local restaurant and get a plant based meal. And I tell people not to put me into a “box”. If people judged me on that they would be wrong every time.

I live in East TN which is a red state in the south and EVs are pretty widely accepted here. I'm not convinced it really is that polarized on a people level as the media makes it out to be. Most people don't care or they think EVs are cool because they know their performance. I get more questions seeking genuine knowledge about them than trouble for having one.

Also it helps that I'm honest the other way about their drawbacks like towing and how it really doesn't make sense to own one if you cannot charge at home.

Also it helps that I'm honest the other way about their drawbacks like towing and how it really doesn't make sense to own one if you cannot charge at home.

I think it really depends where you are to some point. I mean Teslas are everywhere and have been for a while, but with anything on social media, it has spread globally.

I see a lot of this online, from a mix of people. As a hobby, I help out a very large Twitch streamer with some business things, and lets just say, the EV's are bad has leaked into people all over the globe. He recently bought a Tesla and the reaction from some people...it's down right insane.

I had an old-timer come up to me last summer right after I got it and say "Is that the electric truck that looks like a Honda?" I said "Yeah, it's electric but styling is subjective." He asked a few other questions in the same tone that I answered.

When he walked over to his Porsche Boxter, I couldn't help but yell, "Hey, is that the Porsche that looks like a Miata?" He was pissed, and I was pleased with myself.

Lots of us aren't eligible for the tax credit anymore so its not something we ever have to justify. Thanks to the stupid ass income cap that really has no reason except punishing the people who already pay the most in taxes.

Honestly that's more polarized based on income level than it is political affiliation.

Yeah online doesn't count. Online is where all the morons congregate constantly. That's sort of my point, online is much more polarized and silly than the actual world is. Usually when someone comes up to me and says "I heard online X about how EVs are bad" or really anything they heard I'll tell them about how I got rid of social media accounts because of all the false truths and propaganda on there and how my mental health has greatly improved because I don't constantly get angry over social media anymore. Doing that instead of arguing about the actual content of what they said tends to yield better results.

Completely agree with Donald.

I live in Texas but have taken an EV all over the Midwest including small towns in Oklahoma, Missouri, Nebraska and in the South such as Alabama, Arkansas, and Louisiana.

I've had many people come up and talk to me and I've spoken with some very country people.

Every person who has ever made a comment was positive. Some wanted to know how they could use their land to build charging stations, some just wanted to ask the common questions about range and how I liked my cars.

When it came to the R1T specifically, unanimously it was that they loved how it looks, thought it was very cool, but wished it was less expensive.

On a similar note, Tesla puts everyone's name on a piece of paper when delivering vehicles. A major Republican political figure was picking up a Model S plaid last year. I feel like more and more EVs are just viewed as cars and not political statements.

I'm sure there are groups of people that hate EVs for a variety of reasons but EV hate is way overestimated imo. The majority of people I talk to about them are just afraid of the change because they are worried about charging infrastructure and adapting to all of that.
