If you make a reservation early, they'll give you some free things that presumably you'd otherwise have to pay for. So, here's the list of things you'll have to pay for:

"Customers who make a reservation request through November 27, 2023 will be eligible to receive a suite of gifts after their purchase or lease of an EV9, including a Webasto Go Dual Voltage Portable EV Charger, a complimentary three-year Kia Maintenance Plan, and one year of available Digital Features & Services. All customers purchasing or leasing the all-new EV9 will receive a 1,000-kWh charging credit with Electrify America."

I hope Rivian doesn't start charging for this stuff, except of course the charging. :)

Nice! R1S still looks like a great deal compared to the GT line.

I can hardly wait for these some of these owners to start clogging more EA charging sites as they try to get to 100% because its "free".

3 Year maintenance plan - tire rotations/cabin filter replacement. Blinker fluid refills? Retro/Turbo Encabulator tuning?

My name is Mike, and I have a (car) problem
Impressive! Kia (and Hyundai and Genesis) are really on a roll. Love to see this hit the market.

If you haven’t seen the interior of a Genesis GV, do yourself a favor and check it out. They are deeply impressive designs. I expect the top end of the Kia range to be similarly amazing.

Hopefully they will figure out a way to hold dealers to MSRP. If not then what's the point of reserving one. Might as well wait for 12 months post launch to walk in and pick one off the lot.

The price is really attractive. Not the best range but they make up for it with fast charging. I also really like the 6 seater option. Better for kids.

With the Ioniq 5, the dealers seemed to think a reservation list was a list of people willing to pay a mark up on the vehicle. They treated it as a list of people that were overly enthusiastic and willing to pay to be the first. At least in my experience.

On my Ioniq5, the free maintenance covers tire rotations. That's all that it calls for until, like, 60k miles. It does not cover cabin air filters. If you read the "free maintenance" fine print, it's just oil changes (for ICE) and tire rotations. That being said, I'm not turning up my nose at anything free.

Along those lines, the free juice at EA (Hyundai is still giving 2 years of 30 minute sessions) is nothing to scoff at. I've been able to charge my R1S and Ioniq5 for free for almost two years and 30 minutes is a lot of juice. You don't have to be a jerk and charge to 100%, but it's nice that all of my road trips have been fueled for free. I would say that I've saved hundreds of dollars with that deal.

Lastly, @ads75 is right, at least with the Ioniq5. There were a lot of reports of dealers just not giving a crap about the "preorder" list. I never had a preorder and got one super early by querying the Hyundai inventory system like a total nerd.

As an EV advocate, I'm stoked by this pricing as it is reasonably in line with "normal" SUV pricing and thereby may make the purchase of an EV more palatable for a greater segment of the population.

I didn't reserve one, but I went in last year and they wanted $12k-$15k over MSRP. Fast forward 12 months and we picked up an Ioniq 5 last month for $6k under MSRP.
