"Brand new Rivian transported from North Carolina for me to perform paintless dent removal. The customer was told by the only certified shop near him that the repair would require a bedside replacement which was quoted around $40k. Insurance wanted to TOTAL this vehicle due to the high cost of repair.

The customer did his research and ultimately referred to me to perform this repair. These vehicle are very difficult to work on due to the limited access to the backside of the damage. We were able to repair the dent using paintless dent removal and maintain the factory parts and finish, as well as prevent a stain on the carfax. We had the vehicle in our possession for 3 days, which is a way better cycle time, than it sitting in a body shop for possibly a month or more."

WOW! Super interesting. WIll keep in mind if and when I get a dent. Still need to add PPF

all these outrageous body shop quotes are the body shops trying to scam insurance they’re not really what it costs from an honest repair shop,

My trucks repair was $4200 for a dent in the bed side behind the drivers rear wheel. And that is probably 4x what it would have cost if it was a Toyota Corolla so while it’s still more expensive it’s not 40x
I believe the “authorized” shops are not repairing anything, simply replacing the parts and painting them. Full coverage insurance is to make the vehicle as close to new as possible. If you hit me, this is the work I want done. If I hit my own mailbox, I get the dent repaired at my own expense, the cheap way.

they know that it’s an insurance job so they jack the price right up. You got to call these scammers out.

That is a really impressive repair. True professionals.

Some Rivian panels are aluminum which is way different to repair compared to a steel panel. Aluminum is more difficult to work. So if you are looking for a shop to pull a dent, make sure you ask them if they know how to work with aluminum. I have done lots of work on aluminum aircraft panels and parts and it's hard to fix a dent. The repair on this Rivian is very impressive. I would guess there are only a few shops that can do this quality of work.

Actually no, go do the magnet test, and it will stick to the rear quarter panel--it's steel. Hood, Front Quarter panels, Doors aluminum.

Agree, I just wrote the reply poorly. I corrected it but really just wanted to point out if you have an aluminum dent it's best to ask the shop if they have worked on aluminum.

That PDR guys is obviously and experienced craftsman. I don't think your average PDR guy could get the same results.

Body style definitely needs to be built in smaller panels.

I have a dent in the same location (rear quarter panel) nearly identical but smaller in my R1T. Happened in a parking garage. I’ve been getting quotes for PDR and a body shop. Haven’t received the body shop quote yet, but PDR ranges from $800 to $6000. I’m really torn on what to do. I am leaning towards PDR to expedite the repair. I don’t want to be without my truck for a month or more!
Rivian R1T R1S Wow a $41k dent (quoted for bedside replacement). Saved by PDR paintless dent removal repair IMG_5854

In your case, the scrape on the bumper right below the parking sensor is going to be the complicating factor.

If you're fine with leaving that scrape there, PDR will work great on the metal panel. You don't (seem to) have any paint buckling/creasing, so it shouldn't even require a full repaint.

But that bumper damage… If you want that to look new, then because of the material the bumper is made of, Rivian or a Rivian-approved shop will insist on replacing the whole bumper. Which will be thousands of dollars.

$800 is the low and $6,000 is the high PDR range... where are the other PDR quotes coming in at? Are they closer to the low end or the high end? Are the $800 and $6,000 number outliers?
