"Brand new Rivian transported from North Carolina for me to perform paintless dent removal. The customer was told by the only certified shop near him that the repair would require a bedside replacement which was quoted around $40k. Insurance wanted to TOTAL this vehicle due to the high cost of repair.

The customer did his research and ultimately referred to me to perform this repair. These vehicle are very difficult to work on due to the limited access to the backside of the damage. We were able to repair the dent using paintless dent removal and maintain the factory parts and finish, as well as prevent a stain on the carfax. We had the vehicle in our possession for 3 days, which is a way better cycle time, than it sitting in a body shop for possibly a month or more."

You really have to watch the dent repair quotes. Every body shop doesn't do paintless dent repair (pdr). I got caught in a pretty bad hail storm in May. First body shop wanted to replace the hood and two other panels. I found a pdr guy who did a great job. All sides of the truck had at least minor dents....$5200 total cost. Looks like new.

Claim is made by the PDR guy - I don't trust that $41k estimate. Yeah, that's a big body piece, but replacing both side panels wouldn't cost more than the full new price of the vehicle.

I’m curious how and why he chose the shop he did.

all these outrageous body shop quotes are the body shops trying to scam insurance they’re not really what it costs from an honest repair shop,

My trucks repair was $4200 for a dent in the bed side behind the drivers rear wheel. And that is probably 4x what it would have cost if it was a Toyota Corolla so while it’s still more expensive it’s not 40x

My PDR experiences are in the neighboorhood of $2000 - $3000 for the repair quote but only paying $300 - $350 for the PDR. Probably saved a week each time also.

So if the PDR guy could pull out the dents with glue tabs (he did a fantastic job BTW).. why did the body shop have to quote replacing the whole side of the vehicle? They could have gone the standard route using a stud gun and pull out the dent just like the PDR guy did. Of course some filling, sanding and repainting would be needed after using the stud gun.. but maybe a couple of grand total vs. $41K replacing the whole side of the vehicle. The body shop lost the job due to greed!

It's like these shops see a Rivian coming in and they instantly think it's a $100K vehicle so it's a license to blindly charge whatever they want vs. performing a standard type repair in a situation like this that has nothing to do with the vehicle being a BEV vs an ICE vehicle.

I have a friend who owns a classic 911, a restored 1969 Camaro SS , a Lambo and his wife drives a new Escalade. Whenever he has any estimator come over to price some work.. he parks those vehicles at a family member's house for the morning leaving just his Chevy and Ford work vehicles in the driveway. That tactic seems to work as he always works out great deals with his contractors.

Would love to know if there is anyone west of the Mississippi that can claim to have anywhere close to this level of PDR magic?

Is that a Forest Green or Launch Green? Looks great and an awesome job on the dent. I like how honest he was to document the few things that weren't perfect at the end of the video. That's a good dude.

Pretty slick. I did my vintage westinghouse fridge in a similar way but those guys definitely amped it up. Well done!
