I just got pushed back yet again (Jan-Feb), with an elaborate letter pushing the dual-motor setup, which they are apparently prioritizing for the rest of the year! In fact, if I opt to change to Performance Dual-Motor, I can get still get one this year. I have a basic setup and no max-pack...and I live less than 10 miles from an SC, so I'm PISSED!!!

Hi Michael,

Unfortunately, your delivery window estimate has moved back to 2024 due to an adjustment in our build plan. Your updated delivery window estimate is now in your Account.

We realize this is not the news you were hoping for. To achieve our goal of building and delivering the most vehicles possible, we routinely evaluate our build plan throughout each quarter. In most cases, the resulting adjustments have no impact on delivery window estimates. Unfortunately, the change in this case has resulted in your build moving to a new delivery window. We sincerely apologize for this shift and how it impacts your ability to plan.

If you would like to still take delivery in 2023, we are offering the option to switch to Performance Dual-Motor and get a Rivian vehicle this year. The ability to move your timing forward is a result of the progress we’ve made ramping Dual-Motor production, which is enabling us to deliver more Dual-Motor vehicles in 2023.

We will be prioritizing Performance Dual-Motor deliveries this year, with Dual-Motor vehicles to follow. If you are interested in moving your delivery timing to this year, we recommend reconfiguring to Performance Dual-Motor.

Switch to Performance Dual-Motor

Once you confirm your order, you will be contacted by a Guide directly with next steps. In the meantime, you can learn more about our purchasing process so you are prepared.

As a reminder, your current estimate is based on your configuration as of July 30, 2023. We plan to refresh every three months and your next estimate is planned for October.

If at any time you reconfigure or change your delivery address, the delivery estimate in your Account will update to “Processing estimate” pending our next scheduled refresh. We look forward to getting you behind the wheel as soon as possible.

Thank you for your patience.

I heard PPF was potentially delaying people, but yeah this sucks and I really wonder why some are getting asked to change...I didn't get asked to change and I got moved up even.

Would you consider the dual motor?

I had a good chuckle, My email says;

We’re happy to report that your delivery window estimate remains the same and your vehicle is on track to be delivered on time. Your updated delivery window estimate is now in your Account....

Except that it did not actually exactly remain the same; It went from Oct-Dec 23, to;

Estimated Delivery
December 2023 - January 2024

I suppose that's sort of the same in an Spanish mah-nyah-nah kind of way, but to be really honest, I don't really find myself bothered too much. I fully anticipate that date will push again. As long as I get it before next summer.
Hell, maybe I'll even have the NACS charging port and the maxpack ;-) by the time it rolls out here.

I cancelled my Ford order, but have not cancelled my Sierra or Dodge EV preorder, so who knows maybe before next summer, their offerings will be available.

I rented a brand new Dodge 2500 cummins diesel with the 12" Uconnect5, to tow my boat this summer. I'd hate to drive it around town, but that thing was the best tow vehicle I've had in front of my boat ever, and the wireless carplay connection was slick.
If their EV offering has some of that, it'd be worth a look.
It went so solidly up the hills, I shaved 45 minutes off my usual trip duration and I didn't need to fuel up.

The more time they take, the better the R1 platform will get, and the more options I will have for purchase.

Good news for me. I moved up to Sept-Oct!
Mine moved OUT a month. Again.
My July ‘21 R1S pre-order had an original estimate of 1H 2023. That got pushed to July-Sept. Last estimate said it would be August-Sept.
Now it’s pushed to Sept-Oct, even though the email they sent said “your delivery window estimate remains the same and your vehicle is on track to be delivered on time.”.
No config changes made ever.

At least you all got some dates! Living in Charlotte North Carolina, 5 hours either direction to a service center, this has been the consistent message we've gotten since they started posting "updates". I already have a launch edition R1T from my 2018 reservation, but made the R1S reservation just prior to the price increase and the lack of service center excuse has delayed the delivery to a state i've already taken delivery in due to the legislatures in NC and SC not allowing service centers to "non dealership" companies. So those in the Carolinas are being held hostage to the state legislatures getting their act together to allow a Service Center in the state.

That being said, I'm not real thrilled about my 5 hour journey one way to Atlanta tomorrow to drop off my R1T after 14 months ownership to have it serviced for all those things everyone's had issues with (tick/tock, etc), to get an enterprise rental car that is almost certainly not a Rivian, to turn around and drive back 5 hours for who knows how long before they complete the repair and then repeat the process to get the R1T.

As long as they honor the pre price increase pricing, I'll wait. i may have 100,000 miles on my R1T by then and be ready to trade in for the R1S!

Hi Mark,

We previously shared that you could expect your delivery window estimate this August. As we continue planning the roll out of a Rivian Service Center in your area, we need more time to understand when that site will be ready to support your vehicle's delivery and ongoing service needs. For now, we're leaving your Account Page set to "Processing estimate".

While we know this is not the news you were hoping to hear, we are working hard to provide Rivian owners with a complete ownership experience. Vehicle support infrastructure is key to providing the level of service owners deserve. Our team will continue to explore ways to expedite the development of this infrastructure in order to get your R1S to you sooner.

No. I really want the quad, as I think it will be better for the overall value of the vehicle, in the long run. That said, now I have to learn the implications of waiting until 2024, pertaining to the tax credits...purchase price cap, earnings cap, etc. I definitely don't want to miss out on "free money."

I'm in a similar situation. Confirmed my unicorn build (R1S Quad, Yellow) about a week or two ago, previously had a H2 '24 delivery window. Guide assured me that I'd been matched with a production slot.

I'm still "processing and no email." Perhaps there isn't a "we're making it now" state for the website.

That’s what I’m hoping for, but we need to know a bit more than that. I know for me it’s not a service center appointment as I’ve already taken delivery of another Rivian at my SC. I’m trying to get in touch with my guide but they are out of the office for a week haha

My R1T Max Pack delivery window was Oct-Dec 2023, and is now Feb-Mar 2024. The email from Rivian doesn't make sense to me. Is Rivian saying that the Denver service center is too busy, so my vehicle can't be delivered there until at least 3 months later?

Rivian updated delivery window.JPG
maybe this is an attempt to address the backlog that service centers are experiencing in highly dense Rivian areas. if you slow deliveries youre likely to slow service tickets.

i dont think it was very popular and id guess its an attempt to streamline production. same reason to get rid of Compass Yellow

My neighbor saw the Tan color, Emerald green (very dark, almost black) and a blue like Rivian blue, but closer to Teal (he described it as an electric blue)... He said it looked awesome in person. He also mentioned the R2 design studio is locked up tight. Roller doors only get opened half way when designers go in and out. Definitely a no go zone if you don't have that kind of access.

He brought home a Compass yellow recently that had the light ash interior.. Definitely a unicorn. VIN ended with XX... so it will eventually get crushed.
yup, that one along with the spinach omelette (compass yellow with forest edge) and santa special (red canyon with forest edge) are likely the two rarest color combos of the R1 produced.

maybe i should have grabbed one of those when they were in the Shop way back when. i remember they would sit there for weeks before someone caved and got it.

Ditto for me. R1S’s must be pushing R1Ts out. My Max Pack + Dual Performance moved from Oct-Dec 2023 to Feb-Mar 2024. That may do it for me… tired of waiting, since 10/2021. Pre-March pricing was nice to have… but only if it actually buys you something, and life only lasts so long. The Max was needed for a specific regular trip plan, but time to cut bait or fish. I’ll review the store, and maybe decide to accept something (without knowing if I will get a 2022 or 23 model!?). But I needed (and was depending upon) the tax credit for 2022, and I have to question how long the IRS will continue to allow an amended return that has an April 2022 (!) ‘placed in service’ date on the forms which is required for the pre-March pricing to get the original $7500 credit regardless of total price. If the new date gets me a new generation powered tonneau cover, I’ll stick it out. But really, what are the chances… :-(
In the same boat. Keep your head up man! The upside from all this jerking around I'm seeing is that the power tonneau cover will be tested by people first. It was announced that it would come mid summer and its been crickets. Probably come at mid fall based on Rivian's reputation so it'll be well tested through the weather before it gets to us

bummer you got delayed again. lets also remember that for pre price hike orders the dual is only saving you hundreds of dollars and you get a shorter warranty.

Holy Smokes...I didn't realize that! I just clicked on the link they sent, and it is only a $500 difference! That is a HUGE NO-BRAINER, HELL NO!!! I'm definitely sticking with the quad setup.
