Tesla site says shipping in October, so it must be the release date
Ah yes. I just saw that in my Tesla app. Thanks for clarifying.

Kind of spendy compared to that they used to cost.

I think it’s a great solution for people that are going for 1 Tesla & 1 non-Tesla EV’s.

It also could be good for people buying a Tesla, but planning to buy a different EV in the future.

It could also be a great option for VRBO owners or those installing destination chargers (although the adapter may disappear pretty quick).

Flexibility is good these days.

Our Tesla charger is installed in a tight space between two garage doors. I can’t use the current docking method because the garage door rails are in the way. Otherwise, I’d jump on this in a heartbeat.
The new one is thicker, you can see if it has enough clearance, if not you could always build it out with blocks past the rails. My garage rails only stick out 4.5 inches so a backplate built up with a couple of 2x4s would cover that of the wires are long enough.

Ah, yeah that's feasible!

Hopefully Tesla's release schedule for this isn't like the roadster.

The most clever thing here is that Tesla has priced it so that it's lower cost than charger plus 3rd party adapter.

The adapters will still be needed for many years to come though for utilizing public chargers.

Also, I just checked the Tesla app and I no longer see the j1772 charger listed there. I wonder if that's been discontinued?
I believe they will discontinue it. There's no need for the J1772 only wall connector when they have a newer, better solution. So if you want that J1772 only wall connector, better snap one up now on 3rd party site! That's what I did yesterday.

I have it mounted exactly the same way as you. I own an ID.4 and a Model Y.

I own two Tesla Wall Chargers 3-gen. I
Initially, I bought the Tesla Wall Connector with the Tesla handle and used a TeslaTap adapter for my ID.4. Later, I bought the Tesla Wall Connector with a J1772 handle and am now using the Tesla J1772-to-Tesla adapter (made by Tesla) to charge my Model Y.

I can't use this new Tesla Wall Connector with a built-in adapter because the adapter is on the side of the Tesla Wall Connector, where I have no access due to the garage door rails blocking it.

I believe the adapter locks. If you're using NACS, the adapter is locked into the unit. If you're using J1772, it's locked to the NACS plug. We'll have to see when reviews come out. But I would have a hard time believing Tesla didn't think about it considering the magic dock adapter at the SC stations locks.

Yes I'm sure they thought about it, but after some thought they could have decided no lock was better (for their bottom line) on this product.

At a supercharger, Tesla has to foot the bill if the adapter goes missing. On the Wall Connector Tesla makes additional profit each time an adapter goes missing.

I don't quite understand the comments about this new Tesla charger having power sharing capability. Does that mean you can add a second charging cable to that one device to charge two cars simultaneously? Or just that you can add it to a garage circuit that already has another charger installed, like a Rivian wall charger and this new Tesla charger being on the same circuit from the circuit breaker box? If the latter, this would be a good option when I buy a second electric vehicle (already own the R1T and have a Rivian wall charger).

I can confirm it does lock in both positions like I mentioned before. A review came out today demonstrating it.

Totally true. I guess that's just part of the game unfortunately.

No it means you can purchase additional Tesla charger put them on a single 60 amp circuit and they will communicate with each other and share the maximum load on the circuit. So if you have 2 chargers running at the same time they would max out at 24 amps. If you had 4 going at the same time they would max out at 12 amps. If there were 4 and only one was being used it would use all 48 amps.
