I am not at all surprised that the R1S did so well. However I am surprised in change in grade on moderate overlap test from good to marginal which appears to be the result of concern for potential rear passenger injury in the updated test (rear passenger dummy's head approached the front seat back, lap belt moved from the ideal position on the pelvis onto the abdomen, and dummy injury values indicate a moderate risk of injury to the chest).

does that mean that the belt tensioner did not kick in upon impact?

Not sure, but Rivian’s team will likely be all over it soon, and release a combination of software or hardware improvements—possibly another customer campaign
