My job requires that I relocate across the country for 4 months. They cover housing and travel costs. We have to move to an apartment complex in Memphis, TN area. Brand new complex, but I can't figure out a way to charge my R1T.

I asked the complex about installing a nema 14-50 plug in my garage, but they will not get back to me. Things are not looking good.

Any ideas on how to charge my truck? I don't want to drive to a charger every day. I work in the field and cannot plug in at the "office".

Edit-- I will likely sell my truck if I can't figure out a solution. Very upset. 1.5k miles on it. Bought it from a flipper and have put money into it since. Love the truck.

My name is Mike, and I have a (car) problem
How many miles a day do you think you’ll drive? The L1, while slow, could be a nice stopgap between times you do need to hit a DCFC. It certainly won’t be adequate for everything, but you could get to 100% and supplement with fast chargers when you’re out to dinner / etc.

If you have an L2 or DCFC not too far away, just hit it once or twice a week. Unless you are driving further than that each day? In between you can just keep it plugged in inside your garage via the L1 cable.

If only 4 months it should not be too painful. How much driving do you expect to do daily. My wife is commuting about 40 miles a day in our Model S and we only charge every three days. She could do easy 5 days in the R1S charging to 85%.

See if they have electric dryers, if they do and it is close to or in the garage you could probably get an adapter for that plug and get maybe 8 to 10 miles an hour (30 amp breaker charging at 24 amps is 5.76 kWh).

It will likely be 100 miles a day. Honestly, I would like to leave the AC on most of the day as I am in out of the car. It's dang hot there.

Are there any laws in TN that require power hookups for EVs in apartment complexes? I think in CA there are now
From what I see, those laws are only in NY and CA. I would love to be wrong.

My plan was to run an extension cord from the oven (nema 14-50), to the garage. However, they pulled a fast one on us and our garage will not be direct access to the unit. It is a detached garage.

I've seen around 2 miles per hour of charging on L1. If my truck is plugged in from 10 pm til 10 am, that would give me around 24 miles.

It depends on a lot of things. Memphis isn't a great city for itinerant RVs. There are few Level 2 charging options near my house in east Memphis/Germantown. All that I'm aware of are free.

There seems to be a bunch in and around downtown/Mud Island

A handful of car dealerships have DCFC, but typically are 30-50kw. There is an EA station on the northeast corner of the city

Yeah that won’t help much with a 100 mile per day commute. Sounds like your best bet is to hit a charger every 2-3 days if you have access to one nearby. Otherwise I would probably just rent something, which really sucks.

I am an apartment dweller so when my Rivian comes I will be in a similar situation, although with a 30-40 mile commute 3 days per week. I plan to just hit the local EA charger 2-3 times per month and leave it plugged into L1 in my garage in between.

It really is not bad. Before I retired because of Tesla free supercharging, I used to just go be a supercharger a couple of days a week on the way to work, grab a cup of coffee and check some emails. I actually did not mind it and some days would stop without needing to.
