Hello again, fellow Rivarians! So, while I was working on the @EV Sportline running board project, I thought we could benefit from a site sponsor or two to “step up” make either rubber rack aero mounts inserts (Slides under and through the yellow accented rack mount bar, or a cheaper 3D printed cover. Personally, I would prefer the former as it would “plug” the cavity while leaving the silver / yellow mount showing!

Edit: I was thinking about playing around with some plumber’s putty to get a feel for the mold needed…. Don’t have a 3D scanner in my back pocket, just yet…

Thoughts? Anyone interested in producing these?

Maybe a less expensive version of this for the DIY’er? Cut to size and shape with an X-Acto knife?

If those are causing aero issues I can't imagine what will happen with the CT fender flares.
Couldn't you just cut some small pieces of PPF? or stuff it with silly putty

Sure, you could do all of those things, but like the hitch over, I want to R&R them as needed when using the racks. I believe the "bar" is also raised, so a flat film likely would not hold.

I can't help but think this is a solution without a problem... at the end of the day it's a truck.

Pour some plasti-dip in there and let it harden. Fill in the gaps with clay first, then coat the surfaces with a mold-release so the plasti-dip wont stick. Pop out the hardened part then re-apply the mold-release and do it again until you have as many pieces as you want. If the cast parts work like you want them to, then it's easy to find someone who can scan and 3d print them.

Never used Plasti-dip. For this to work , the cured piece needs to have rubber-like properties, otherwise it’s never coming out! When 3D printed, after scanning, I would use TPE, TPU or TPC.

Being a truck has nothing to do with it, and I wish people would stop using the “hur dur it’s a truck“ as a generic excuse for everything. But otherwise, yes, this is a solution looking for a problem and I don’t see why the effort should be expended. Doesn’t matter if it’s a sedan or truck.

@jebinc I like the idea, 3d scanner and 3d printer activated! Eric has a few things on his plate, but we'll make some of these for you to play with

My name is Mike, and I have a (car) problem
I think this is a great idea, actually. I get tree crap in my roof bar mounts all the time, which inevitably deteriorates and turns into muck when wet. It would be nice to not have that in there. So - definitely a real problem worth investigating.

Second, it would be fun to see just how much more aero you can squeeze out of the R1T - functionality be damned. (Admittedly, I’d need to start with removing the Yakima Megawarrior off the bed. Ha.)

Don't want to hijack the thread but while we're discussing aero inserts I'd like to see some for the rear cab spoiler for when you have a RTT on the bed cargo crossbars
