Was upgrading my home Wifi system and the new mesh system does not allow for a dedicated 2.4Ghz SSID, so I figured it was time to see if that 10/100 ethernet port inside the charger works.

Sure enough, it does. Still says it's connected to wireless network in the app, but it never actually went through and connected when I tried. Looks to be passing traffic through ethernet.

So for those of you who prefer hardwired things, "it worked for me".

Doesn't sound like much of an 'upgrade'... ?

I typically prefer hardwiring devices, when practical, but I decided I wasn't going to hardwire my EVSE for safety reasons. If I did need to use the ethernet port, I'd probably use a fiber transceiver just to get electrical isolation outside of the EVSE, itself.

Has anyone had problems with the 60A breaker on the Rivian Wall charger tripping? Min tripped the first 2 times I charged, but then worked perfectly for the next 6/7 charges. 2 nights ago I decided to charge to 100 % for the first time and I had to reset the breaker 4 times. I even dialed back the aperage to 44 A using the vehicle screen, but the breaker still tripped.

Any thoughts? I sent a service request to Rivian, but haven't heard back yet.

Never tripped for me. Make sure you are using a QUALITY breaker that is of the appropriate brand/type for your load center. Also make sure all your connections are tight. If that all checks out, I'd swap the breaker, as it may be defective.

Did you have an electrician install the circuit? Is it a GFCI breaker? (It shouldn't be ...). Did you use 6 AWG? Etc. If it's tripping, chances are there is an installation problem like sub-spec wiring or loose connections. Or it may be a defective breaker, but IMO that's less likely.

You can dial back your charge rate in the vehicle to pull only 40A and see if that stops the breaker tripping.

Yes, despite my urge to do it myself, I laid out the cash for a licensed pro. 60 A GFCI breaker, 4g Al wire from breaker to the interrupt, external interrupt with 6g Cu to the charger. They will certainly stand by their work and I can call them to check the circuit. Thanks for weighing in.

Yeah, try charging at 40A for a while and see what that does.

Mine started failing after about 6 wks. Turned out to be a faulty breaker. Electrian came out and replaced and being running at 48 a ever since.

Thanks. I wonder if there is a test for the breaker.

60 A GFCI breaker
If that wasn't a typo and they actually installed a GFCI breaker, that's likely your problem. it needs to be swapped for a non-GFCI breaker.

Rivian tech support also confirmed that the GFCI was redundant and needed to be replaced with a standard breaker. Apparently Rivian chargers have a built in GFCI component and Tesla do not. Code requires on in the circuit. This was the first Rivian charger installed by the company that did mine, so they followed the Tesla playbook. I suggested that Rivian mark the installation manual to indicate that there was an internal GFCI component to avoid this for other's installation.

Now I just need a few charging cycles to see if the problem seems resolved.

Also, my experience with GFCI always includes a test and reset button. Wonder how the Rivian charger accommodates this?

The installation manual already tells you this.

J1772 spec requires the device to have a GFCI. I'm pretty sure the Tesla units also have them. Your installer is blowing smoke up your ass.
