Pretty wild if it’s back for good. I vaguely recall Tony Caravano writing on Reddit that it was removed due to low usage, but that’s clearly BS. There were not enough R1’s in service at the time to make such a determination and if low usage were really a factor, I bet the Camp Speaker would have been axed or at least an upgrade option.

I personally used my 12V frunk to power my electric cooler for a day off road trip over the weekend. I love having it there for such occasional use.

Will be interesting to see if you’re a one off or if it’s returned for good.

What does this mean for the customers who received R1 without it?
Would the service center install it?

We can only hope so. Maybe that's why they left the harness for it even in trucks without the 12V.

My VIN is a 2023 17,5xx and it doesn't even have the small bay for the 12V outlet over the light as shown in the OP's photo..

I just picked up my 2023 mid 18000 vin R1T and to my surprise it has a 12 volt DC outlet in the frunk! I said to the service guy "I thought they removed these months ago?" and he replied "yep, they did. you must have an older build." I pointed out the 2023 on the sticker and the Vin and he repsonded with "oh wow, looks like it's back." While I don't know if mine was a fluke or not, I certainly have it on a 2023 and I'm very happy about it.

My vin ends in PN018xxx

The P (before the N) = 2023
A N (before the N) = 2022

So it's a 2023. I dont think the reset they vin for R1T, but could be wrong.

Their VIN assignment is drunk They definitely reset the R1S vins because my 2023 is a single digit.

Weird, the new tub designs were 1 magnet and no 12V.. wonder if they just had some extra tubs they were trying to use up instead of taking storage space. In any case thats lucky.
