Rivian is a great truck, but not the right platform for a slide-in camper. Need to go Lightning or Cybertruck, something with a real bed and real capacity.

Anybody have any pics what the bed looks like with all the plastic removed?I'd expect a real shell design might require taking all the plastics off to save weight.
Uhm. You're going to be disappointed. The plastic panels are the bed.Anybody have any pics what the bed looks like with all the plastic removed?
Pipe dream, but if it were me I'd ditch the plastic and do a spray-in bedliner over whatever's underneath. Ya know, like a real truck. ??
Is that an R1T bed?? better yet is that YOUR R1T bedUhm. You're going to be disappointed. The plastic panels are the bed.

It's mine. I took it out to run some wiring. Plastics probably total somewhere in the 50-100 lbs range but I didn't measure any of them.Is that an R1T bed?? better yet is that YOUR R1T bed
interesting... how hard was it to take out and put back in?It's mine. I took it out to run some wiring. Plastics probably total somewhere in the 50-100 lbs range but I didn't measure any of them.
Yikes. Welp, so much for that idea. Thanks for the pic!Uhm. You're going to be disappointed. The plastic panels are the bed.

Awkward more than anything else. I didn't get the alignment of the latches for the spare tire lid in quite the right place so it doesn't pop up anymore, have to pry it up to open it. The handle and the opposing corner trim capture the bed slightly and need to be unscrewed from the bottom. I just pried up on it until it popped over them, then did the reverse to put it back. I wouldn't recommend doing that since they're kinda wonky now. Definitely take the extra time to remove the panels under the bottom of the truck to get better access at the latches.interesting... how hard was it to take out and put back in?

Make sure you do the math. When I looked at the Scout Home - Scout Campers, before I got the truck and before the guidance on slide-ins, I was looking at 1000lbs for the camper. Add self, wife, two dogs, water (heavy, btw), food, clothing...the math was getting tight...and that is when I thought I would have a 1700 lb limit. In any case, if there is a warranty shredding potential if using a slide-in, that's too risky for me.
Take a look at your payload sticker, drivers door jam. I think the best case for an R1T is around 1700lbs so 634lbs plus a couple of people and some gear is possible. I'd definitely recommend some LT tires with that setup, there would certainly be some compromise and Rivian would never endorse it of course. YMMVHi, what about the Scout Tuktuk slide in camper? Barebone, it weighs ~634 lbs (https://scoutcampers.com/hard-wall/tuktut/). Of course it all depends on what extras you add to the setup. Would the R1T be enough to handle this weight?
Thanks.
