Getting my R1T tomorrow.. 8-steps completed including Insurance ID card uploaded 1/18.
All was good to go for Fri 1/20 delivery till I get a "your delivery could be delayed" email today 1/19 at 3:45pm from Rivian.
Seems they rejected my Insurance ID cards because:
1) Name on ID card can not be more than 20 characters.
So I needed to drop my full middle name and just use my middle initial even though Rivian explicitly tells you during the 8-Steps to use the name on the registration for your insurance card which is the same name on my Enhanced Drivers License which does not allow a middle initial- you have to use your full middle name on an Enhanced Drivers License.
2) Insurance card must have at least 90 days out expiration date.
Well, that's a problem because the card your agent emails you when you're on the phone with them adding your new Rivian to your Policy in BOLD stated "Temporary Insurance ID Card" with a 60 day expiration date. After some arm-twisting I was able to have my Ins Agent manually generate an insurance ID card with a 6 month expiration date.
... of course the new Insurance Card had to be re-uploaded to Rivian today, less than 24hrs before my scheduled delivery.
3) Notary Service Needed..
About 2 hrs after getting the "you are now confirmed for delivery tomorrow" text message from Rivian.. I get a super sketchy text from an "unidentified" 855 phone number with no greeting, etc.. just a line saying "you need to have a document notarized" and a hyperlink. Literally about as sketchy as a random text from someone? as you could get. My phone said it was most likely Spam, and there was no way I as going to open that link. I quickly texted my Guide and the Delivery team asking if either of them just sent me a text for something to be notarized.. no response from either party. I then checked my email on om computer and there was a new email from Rivian regarding "you need to notarize a document". Long story made short.. you need to sign a notarized "Power of Attorney" form in order for Rivian's 3rd party contractor to register your new Rivian vehicle with your state's DMV for you.
This Notary service is full online, but you need to have your laptop, PC or phone's camera working and a scan of the front of your Drivers License available to upload. Once the process begins you input your SS#, Driver's Lic info and basic address and phone info. You then get access to the Power of Attorney form, but you can't e-sign it till you answer the next set of questions. This next set of questions is timed.. you have exactly 2 min to answer all five questions. The questions were mostly regarding "which of the following vehicles if any have you owned" and there's a list of 5 vehicles with years like "1998 Ford Ranger", "2001 Dodge Viper" , etc and one choice "none of the above" Some of the choices were for boat trailers and motorcycles I've owned over the years. The oldest vehicle was from 1986!! We're talking 37yrs ago now! Most of the vehicle questions were oddly from around the late 1990's to early 2000's for some reason. It was difficult for me to recall if my Ninja 500 was a 2000 or 2001 model, same with a boat trailer from 30+ yrs ago. So if you're not sure of the year and answer "none of the above" you failed that question. You need to answer five sets of these multiple choice questions.
In the first round, I failed too many questions because I've probably had 30+ vehicles and trailers since 1986 and I frankly don't remember the year of each vehicle and I haven't thought about them in years. After failing the first round, I was given the opportunity to try again, and I failed the second verification round too.. again because they were asking about vehicles that I owned more than 30yrs ago and some of the model names they used were close to my vehicles but not exactly correct. Now have to wait 24hrs from 5pm today to re-try the verification test to e-sign my Power of Attorney form tomorrow.
-So, my advice is to make a list of all the vehicles you've owned over the past several decades including the make, model and year of those vehicles and have it handy before you start your timed 2 min verification test.
Anyway, like I said... things they don't tell you (but they should!).
