Context: First, it was quite stormy (gale force winds and rain). Drove home in the wee hours of the morning; I prefer a darker cabin at night. Shut off the ambient lighting and set displays to darkest setting.

1. Upon departure this morning, I found puddles of water in my gear tunnel. Nice. Everything was buttoned down, so not an operator error issue.

2. Drove home at 3am and found the “SOS” and hazard triangle so bright they were a major distraction driving. They don’t dim with the display

3. Door windows switches also too bright and don’t dim at all with other dimming settings.

Is there an option or toggle for these nighttime driving annoyances, or is this what you get for $100,000?

Maybe @twraps will come out with some glare reducing fil-ums you can apply over the offending illuminators?

When I had my Taycan, the “Passenger Airbag Off” indicator in the overhead console was so damn BRIGHT at night that I seriously considered covering it with black electrical tape. I sold it instead. ;)

Black electrical tape is in the plan. Reported this to Rivian via the service section of the app. They need to know about this stuff.

I can certainly tint those but it will be a strange product to sell...but if anybody needs it, just let me know and I can send you some tint (not cut to size as I don't have the R1T with me right now, but you can cut it with scissors or utility knife), and you just cover the shipping.

I don’t know what you’re doing going out in stormy weather. Secondly, nobody our age should be driving at 3 am unless it’s an emergency!

Irrespective of how late our fellow forum member was out and about - or the gailness of the winds and rain, is nobody else concerned that his gear tunnel had water in it?

This isn't the first report of water in the gear tunnel. In 3 decades of car ownership I've never had water intrusion in the vehicle (cabin or trunk) no matter the weather - and I've experienced hurricanes and tropical storms.

To the OP - please keep us informed on what Rivian has to say about the water intrusion. Not to belittle the lite-brite issues in the cabin, but water intrusion is NOT OK.

Yeah, kind of buried the headline with the cabin lights issue.

I think the only logical conclusion based on the trip report is that OP went to the ocean in the middle of the night and used his gear tunnel to kidnap a sea lion, resulting in puddles after he removed the aforementioned sea lion upon returning home.

I noticed the same issue with the window switches earlier this week. I too hope they can address this. I didn’t notice the SOS and hazard, but I’m sure I will now ?.

Hopefully service can address the gear tunnel thing for you. I don’t think you’re the first to have this issue, but I don’t think it’s “normal”.

Will do. Both sides leaked. I couldn’t imagine driving in 3’ of water as Rivian advertises... The gear tunnel would completely fill up. Seals around the doors are inadequate. This morning, before inheaded out, there were two large puddles on the mat; one on each side.

These pictures after I arrived home, after three hours of driving.
