You don't know as much as you think you do, I promise. And you certainly haven't spent much time driving the Colorado mountain highways in winter.
A) most of the roads are not in the mountains of Colorado, B) I have, actually, and I wouldn't touch 70mph on the vail pass with snow on the ground, and C) I'd love to know what I don't know about. But I do know you don't use about 95% of available grip in either direction in typical highway travel, I don't care what state you drive in. Yes, obviously that 5% of the time you drive up and down the mountains west of Denver in a snow storm you need awd (even though traffic goes about 30), and in a good implementation that would be the case. Doesn't mean the truck should stay less efficient for those minority scenarios.

Here’s what typical highway driving is for me half the year. Gimme all the traction.

Look at all those front wheel drive cars just spinning off wrapped around those telephone poles. I've driven worse in my old M3 with summer tires.

Sure you have.
I got my camaro with summer tires stuck in my parents driveway after we got 1/4" of snow and ice early one season. Slid right off the pavers into the grass. I was just trying to move it to a different position in the driveway, guess it worked. Got right into my FWD car with winter tires and had no issues driving over the same stuff. Anyone who admits to having driven summer specific tires in the winter time with snow on the ground is a moron in my book.

Oh it was idiotic. I was young, poor, and effectively homeless unless I made it to my destination. But I made it none the less.

Now, if OP had suggested that Conserve mode should switch the rear motors back on when you accelerated hard enough, then I would have agreed with him.

Look at that, with my moronic brain and your big one we've come together to find a good solution. It's almost like something like that was what I brought this up for in the first place.

Still isn't the same as being in AP and already having them engaged. Nothing in life is instantaneous.

That's a big fat no from me. You can already select Conserve mode when you want it. I want to know 100% whether my truck is in FWD or AWD mode as it will handle differently depending on the drive configuration. Especially in slick conditions, wet or snowy/icy, I want to know how my truck will react when I add inputs to the controls.

I only use conserve when I need to wring out every last mile. Otherwise I don't like way it drives with wrong wheel drive. They should have put the disconnect on front and had it go rear wheel drive when in conserve. Other than packaging, not sure what the upside was for going WWD.

Sorry, you're right. I definitely should be taking mountain driving advice from a guy who drove Vail pass once (nobody calls it The Vail pass).

The fact that you've read all the responses to this thread, and still think that I'm the one in the minority of what's wanted or needed is asinine.

Welcome to my very short, but very esteemed list of ignored.
