Not A Current Reservation Holder Here. Odds of Taking Delivery in 2022?

I put my reservation money down two months ago and at that time the delivery estimate was H2 2023. As others have said, there's about 80k people in line ahead of the OP, and with Rivian only slated to build 25k vehicles in all of 2022, the math is not in his favor to get a truck in the next 3.5 months...unless it's the preowned option.

It's $1,000 fully refundable deposit. Put it in and see what happens and how long it takes them to deliver it. Worst case they contact you and you're no longer in the market and you get your $1,000 back.

Great point. My dealer may just be blowing smoke up my skirt (the hell does that phrase even mean?) but they're talking like my Lightning could potentially get built within the next month or so. In a perfect world I could potentially take delivery of the Lightning in 2022 then I'd be all set for the Rivian sometime in 2023. Doubtful the stars would align in such a manner but, as was mentioned already, might be worth investing in the $1k (refundable) lottery ticket.

This is some of the data that I was analyzing that lead me to create this post seeking further information. If I order what you've described it would exceed the $80k limit which defeats the purpose of trying to get one sooner. If I'm not getting the tax incentive I'd rather just order exactly what I want & wait patiently.

That makes sense. I think if you had been asking this question in June I would say it’s possible, but a longshot. Now, even with the Rivian lottery I would say it’s not Likely to happen. The 21s are the only “free” wheels and Silver is the only “free” paint. I would say remove the powered tonneau but right now they can only produce trucks with the powered version. So I doubt at the new pricing it would be possible to keep it under $80k.

One benefit to waiting will be less software bugs, and hopefully fewer production issues, and possibly even getting Rivian’s in house motors.

I tried to play the cancer sympathy card with Rivian and that did not even work. I have seen the same Rivian a couple of times in the parking lot where I go for radiation treatments, so thought I should try to play that card. It failed.

Summer of '23 here I come!

Binding agreements were only possible before the Inflation Reduction Act was signed into law. Now, you are subject to the tax credit rules in effect on the date you take delivery.

I think it is possible, we are seeing people that reserved end of 2021, and I think at least one early 2022 getting vins assigned for delivery.

Probably more depends on where you are located In reference to the support structure or a service center.

There is an outside chance for me since I live 39 mi from the Costa Mesa SC and paying the higher pricing from Rivian but more likely 2023 ihmo. And yes I did sign the purchase agreement before the 08/16/2022. I will update if I get a delivery window at that "End of Summer communication". Check my signature for the particulars.
