I like that Wagoneer S. There isn't much details about it yet but from what I've seen I really like it. Will be interested to hear more about it in the coming months, but it looks really good.

I am underwhelmed. I can see people easily passing on these.
You're kidding right?

The off-road crowd are aching for e-4X4's and this one is going to sell out in a heartbeat with waiting lists a year long.

Compared to an R1S with a 400 mile range… oh wait
To get 400mi out of this shape, they're going to need a battery the size of what's in the Hummer.

I don't know why everyone is saying this is "Wrangler Based". It's not. Stellantis made zero mention of that in their press release. It's not the body on frame chassis that the Wrangler came from. It's on the same platform underpinning the upcoming Wagoneer S.

That said, it's got some nice Wrangler styling ques but it really looks more like the Bronco Sport. It certainly looks more capable than the BS. Frankly I'm very happy to see this but what my wife and I are waiting for is a BEV Wrangler. Hopefully with solid axles. Manga recently introduced solid axles for EVs, so we may get exactly that.

I also think this will be some great competition for the R2.

Not sure it would need to be that big. Probably around 160-180kWh depending on the tires they use etc.

I was just on one of the Jeep forums and they are destroying this and EV’s in general??

The funny thing is, most of the crap they are saying is just flat out wrong.

Sadly (and happily) I have quit arguing with people on the internet, or I would be spending my day citing facts that would be ignored.

I love how you can take the doors off the Recon, open all the glass, and open the roof. I wish the R1S could do that. I really don't like the glass roof. I want the roof to open, or come off.

Those kind of things are going to be the things legacy car companies do better, because the are already doing something similar and can just reuse existing designs. Yes you start with a clean slate when you start with nothing, but you also make a lot of mistakes others have already made, and take a lot longer to get a product out the door.

It is extremely disappointing to me that Rivian is no longer considering the removable roof.

As a stockholder who has lost a crap ton of money, I hope Rivian can make a vehicle that remains competitive. Soon, I am afraid it won't be able to keep up with the competition.

If Jeep makes the Recon as proposed, it will be a better alternative for many people in the space Rivian is trying to serve, including me. And that is really bad news for Rivian.

Considering the non-electric Grand Wagoneer already runs well into the $100k range, this is a hard pass compared to a (probably cheaper!) R1S.
That's Grand Wagoner. Regular Wagoner starts around $65K so I believe it will be very competitive to R1S.

Its clear that Jeep has noticed Rivian threatening their adventure/outdoor lifestyle vehicle competition. We know they'll start delivery in 2024, per Jeep, so Rivian just needs to clear some head start as the first mover for boxy 3row eSUV.

To be fair a lot of the legacy automakers are moving to panoramic glass roofs (that don't open) as a feature. I guess it's cheaper and (Edit: It's not cheaper, stupid thought) some people don't mind but I'm with you that I would rather have a roof that I can open

The Wagoneer that starts at $65k is a "base model" with 4x2. They are not in the same ball park.

Do you really think that the electric version with a 175kwh battery pack (minimum) is going to cost anywhere close to what the current ICE version does?

I'll be shocked if it starts at under $80k.

Don't know where 175kwh came from, but the both the original and quoted above statements have lots of unstated assumptions.

All I pointed out was the original statement comparison to Grand Wagoner rather than Wagoner. The eSUV is a Wagoner S, not Grand Wagoner S.

I fully expect the Wagoner S to be price competitive against Rivian. Standard range and extended range seem to be a common option from almost all mfg. The article clearly shows the top of the line specs but it is fully logical to believe there will be lower tier variants.

175kwh battery pack comes from the claimed range of 400 miles. Giving them way more credit than they've earned, lets assume that they can match the R1S efficiency numbers at 2.4mi/kwh. That's a 166kwh (usable) battery, minimum, to get to 400 miles. That equates to a 170 kwh pack, and IMO that's the floor.

Recon has exposed hinges!

I like the fact that it's a clean sheet of paper design and not built off an existing ICE platform. If priced right Jeep has a home run on their hands.

I firmly believe that BEV's are the future for off-roading. Low center of gravity, no low hanging drivetrain components and the near silence when exploring the backcountry.
