My R1T service experience (West Sacramento Service Center)

Hi all

Got the truck on 7/6 delivered to home, 40 miles on the odometer.

Miles when dropping off at SC = 1167.
Miles at SC pickup = 1211.

Truck was at the SC from 8/15 and just got back today 8/26 for the following:

1. Alignment and balancing
See photo before/after. It was veering to the right slightly. Now it's better but it's still not centered. If above 75mph+ steering vibrates. SC can't fix this. According to SC, there's a longer term solution from Rivian Eng for a heavier steering (edited, not steering column).

2. PPF peeling off on both gear tunnel
When delivered, the PPF was already peeling off

3. Camp speaker not removable
The speaker latch was broken

4. Power tonneau jammed
They resolved it by leaving it open. It's lubricated and is working. SC suggested to lubricate with silicone based grease. Rivian Eng is working on a long term solution.

5. Driver side, rear passenger door not aligned
See photo before/after

6. Wind noise above 60mph+
Hard to pinpoint, but replaced the appliqué (the part between the windscreen and the glass roof) because of thread here. It looks better and the wind noise is less but still there. Will continue to observe and might just have them replace the triangle window.


Rental
During the repair period, they arranged for a rental via Enterprise.


Service
Good, easy to reach and communicate.

While at the SC, there were about 12 R1Ts ready for delivery, and about 8 customer trucks parked outside, and about 6 inside the facility. No R1S was sighted.

When they replaced the applique, did they remove and reinstall with the same or had to put in a new one? I have the same issue being repaired and I'm concerned about the color match if they have to install and spray a new one.

Sorry you are having those issues with your new ride. Is it just me or does it seem like an awful lot of miles accumulated while not in your possession. I don’t know. Maybe it required a lot of test driving.

You saw no R1S’s at the center I have an S on order, but haven’t seen one in the flesh. Was thinking about taking a road trip to Sacramento in hopes of seeing one at the service center. Unfortunately, I live 2.5 hours away. I think I will have to wait until more R1S’s are out in the wild. I’m up to 5 R1T’s spotted and one conversation with an owner.

They replaced it with a new applique and had the bodyshop to spray paint it. Maybe if an expert eye looked at it, they can spot the diff but for me it’s pretty good.

Yes I thought so too about the miles driven but not sure what I can do. They may be genuinely trying to really solve the alignment/balancing issue. If I am ever close to the SC and see one S I’ll let you know.

Hey, thanks for the thought. I appreciate that! But, honestly, unless there are a bunch of them showing up there, I’m probably not going to drive 2.5 hours down there for nothing.

Yes, not worth the drive if just one. But I'll message you anyways, when I see any at the SC and let you know the count.

Hey, thanks for the update! I imagine it may be a bit before the R1S starts showing up in any numbers. I am just dying to get a look at one in the flesh. For my needs, I’ve got so many questions.

I hear you. I'm also equally excited about R1S - sighted one the other day Midnight black with black wheels. The West Sac SC has been awesome, very helpful and easy to work with. Jace and Monika are superstars. Only issue left is powered tonneau.

Hey @Singletracker, was at the West Sac SC this morning. There was a R1S there with a manufacturer's plate. Apparently they've been delivering a few R1S in the past month. Saw a number of it while in the South SF SC 3 weeks ago (I happened to at the San Francisco airport).

Hey, thanks for the update. I’ll probably have to wait until they start arriving in volume, before I get a chance to see one. Just have to be patient, I reckon.

Had a First Mile test drive in Sacramento, yesterday. Drove an R1T. Wow! Fast! Quite a few T’s and S’s sitting around, so finally got a look at an S. A truck full of new Rivians rolled in while I was there.
