So the last vehicles I purchased "new" resulted in JD Power sending me a survey to complete about my purchase. I haven't received one yet for my R1T purchase. So the questions are: 1. Does the manufacturer initiate JD Power surveys or does JD Power do it independently? 2. Has anyone received a JD Power or 3rd party survey yet?

Whenever I hear "JD Power" all I can think of is Zebra Corner videos. I'll let others comment on the validity of JD Power surveys, but I don't put much faith in them.

I fear we're going to get tore up a bit on JD. I don't really put too much weight into it myself. Unless I'm confusing that with CR. It is what it is. 90k people waiting in line is still a great problem to have as they iron out the quirks of these trucks.

I kinda hope I don't get one, because I'd be brutally honest. Initial quality has left a lot to be desired. Broken tonneau, body moldings not flush with the sheetmetal all around, scratches and paint chips on the roof painted section just above the windshield, vinyl of the driver's seat is too small and exposing the padding underneath near the top of the seat, and the air compressor flap door won't close all the way. At least it's mostly cosmetic, but it's still pretty poorly done, unfortunately.

That flap drives you a bit crazy too huh? :-D I'm on my second tonneau so let me cross my fingers. Super interesting I have the majority of the issues you stated minus the seat(I haven't looked) and paint chips above the roof. Hopefully it wont be long before they tighten up production at that former Mitsubishi plant. I used to sell cars and every mitsu I came across had the thinnest of build quality just about everywhere. Even starting those 4yclings made a ting ting ting sound.

I got a survey from JD Power just a few weeks ago, about my Rivian experience. And I love surveys, so I filled it all out. 90% of the questions were about the dealership, and salesperson experience. I knew JD Power was BS but wow, the questions they were asking reminded me just how horrible the traditional carbuying experience is. And they have not bothered to update their surveys to consider companies like Rivian and Tesla. I had to basically scold them in the comments for being outdated.
