White Roof vs Black Roof on white R1S

On the R1T’s the roof is the same color as the body. On the R1S’s the roof is black with chrome trim, regardless of the body color. Not sure why Rivian chose this path. So, here’s the question - which of these two iterations of the R1S looks better. Before I state my preference, let me make it clear - different strokes for different folks. I get it. So, for those who want to pile on my choice and insist their’s is the only reasonable choice - chill. Having said that, to me, the black top on the R1S looks kind of tacky. There are too many things going on. It’s busy, like it was put together by committee. There’s black on the bottom, then the body color, then chrome, then black on the top. Kinda like an Oreo. In fact, I think I just came up with a name for my white S ? I think a mono-color scheme for the R1S is just much cleaner looking. The black top on the darker colors is passable, as it’s not so noticeable. On the lighter colors, not so much, IMHO.

As a hopeful R1S owner, I always thought the black roof wasnt too attractive, but after seeing your post of the 2 next to each other, I have to say the black top is way more attractive.

They got the black roof from Range Rover (it’s an option on LR). On a white truck I’d prefer it to be uniform. On colors like yellow and red, I like black (still can’t stand that silver strip).
On limestone… now I wonder (especially that I’m not going for the black wheels - had too many, seen too many, way over black wheels - until I get mine powder coated ?).

To my eye, the white S with the black top and chrome strip looks chunkier (almost as if the car is shorter in length), as compared to the all white that looks a little sleeker? Whadya think? Maybe that is just my bias playing tricks on me.

Yeah, I tried all one color on the Yellow and it seemed a bit much. Like I would have people trying to flag me down for a ride ?

Depends on the color. In my particular case, I selected white because all the other colors, except silver, made the vehicle's front lights/facia stand out more than I liked. White blended the light cluster into more monochromatic-like appearance. I didn't select silver because our other vehicles are silver and reminded me too much of Raiders color theme with the black roof.

Also, I chose OC interior and now with the change, it integrates the whole theme with the black roof.

The same body color roof trim, I believe will look fine on all darker color selections.

I have seen plenty of people with white SUVs of varying types customize the roof with black vinyl and I think it looks pretty good if done well. I see it most on Ford Explorers - kind of a Range Rover vibe.

It's one of the things I like most on the exterior of the R1S. I keep going back and forth from GW to RB because I like the black roof on the GW so much.
