Rivian Transitioning to Railway Train Transport For Deliveries

For what it's worth, my guide just told me that factory pick-up is only available for folks that live within a certain radius. I was asking because I also have selected a truck from the Shop, and it's sitting in Normal waiting to be put on a train. I asked if I could fly out and drive it home, and it's not an option for me at least.

I asked about factory delivery on another thread and multiple people assured me it was an option. I got the impression it was regardless of one's home base. I was planning to do that.

Updating cause I’ve been active on this thread; truck assigned 4 weeks ago to the day, truck shipped by train. Picking up at Service Center in San Francisco finally scheduled.

Yeah, I know literally nothing more than they told me I couldn't do it based on that reasoning. It's possible there are other factors, such as whether my truck is already prepped for the train or because I bought through the Shop. Who knows, just passing along what little I know.

I asked the Guide and he said VINs aren't sequential and is new from the factory. It isn't a R1T that had issues and needed repairs.

Interesting. Mine just confirmed tuesday this week, is in the mid 5xxx, and supposedly just off the line. Being shipped to CA. Guide says as of Friday it was on a train.

I just received my confirmation yesterday for my R1T in Launch Green. So they better still be making the color.

My LG/BM/20AT confirmed on Tuesday as well. I got a 5xxx vin. And guide says it is on a train. What vin range / config did you get?

Got VIN 98** assigned 8/3, call with guide yesterday he said its en route via train.

Take this for what it is worth...

My app updated on 7/8 that my config was locked
My Guide showed up in the app/webpage on 7/8
On 7/9 I got the email to start the 8 steps - VIN was showing
On 7/10 I had 4 steps complete
On 7/11 I had 7/8 steps done (needed to be verified for my ID and pic of the check)
On 7/12 I had my call with the Guide - she verified all my information and I was 7/8 complete. She said it was built and waiting to load on to the rail car for transport. She told me to expect it around the end of July.
On 7/18 my guide confirmed it was on the train and in transit to Costa Mesa SC in So Cal. She did not state how long it had been on the train at that point. She told me the ETA was 7/30 to Costa Mesa.
On 7/26 she stated that it was expected to arrive on 7/29
On 7/29 she was OOO.
On 8/2 she said the ETA was 8/3.
On 8/3 she said "we should have good news any day now!"
On 8/5 she stated it had arrived in Costa Mesa
On 8/5 I received a call from the SC to schedule my pick up.
Today - 8/6 is my delivery day @3pm Fingers crossed for an amazing experience!

The time for the rail delivery was approx 17 days (if the Guides info was accurate)

• So from the date the APP/Webpage changed up to delivery was 29 days in total.
• Having the steps fully completed upon the truck arriving at the SC allowed me to get the truck almost immediately.
• First saw the R1T at the LA Auto show Nov 2018
• Visited the Venice studio on 10/30/21
• Deposit on 10/30/21
• First mile drive on 6/7/22
• Delivery 8/6/22

Our trucks are probably on the same train. I got a vin on 8/2 and had the 7 steps done by 8/3. Guide said it was on a train to SF on 8/5.

They must have recently gotten a batch of AT wheels. My vin is 5xxx, LG/BM/20AT. I had actually gotten a guide and confirmed at the end of May. Was expecting the truck early July. In the June delivery update they reset my delivery window to November, which my guide “confirmed” was accurate. Who knows!

My Guide just responded and said that the ETA to Costa Mesa is tomorrow. We will see!

Plus, how long will the PDI process take?

I hope my truck is on that train! Also SF Bay Area, got a VIN (from the shop) on Tuesday the 2nd, guide contact on the 3rd saying it would likely be by train and final delivery in a few weeks.

I haven't heard if it's actually on the train or not, and I'm probably not going to harass my poor guide for updates. But hopefully it's moving slowly westward!
