Now that I have a VIN and it's in the 92XX range I have a better feel. It's a truck that is either in production or very recently finished, meaning that something in my matching criteria went from a "no" to a "yes" with the changes I made. If I had to guess, I'd say it was ATL vs DFW and getting inside of whatever magical radius they have determined to be acceptable.

Yep, very recent VIN and when I asked about a factory delivery my Guide said it was already in the transport process to ATL. It may not be in ATL yet or even on the way, but that truck had been allocated to ATL, likely before it was assigned to me because I got my Config Lock email yesterday.

Congrats! Pretty clear they built the truck and then pinged you as being at the top of the algorithm.

Rhetorical question, but I do wonder how much of the manufacturing process is based on what parts they have on hand, and how much is based on building to order? In other words, how many 2021 orders with 21s are being built vs 2019 orders with 20s?

I think people are under-appreciating the capacity constraints at the SCs. The SC has to receive the truck, inspect it, prep it, fix any issues/defects, arrange for delivery, etc. They're doing this on top of servicing all the vehicles in that region. The more vehicles that are in that area (and the more service tickets those owners have generated) the less bandwidth they have to deal with processing new trucks. Granted there are plenty of things you can't get now (e.g. manual tonneau) but I suspect that location is a bigger factor than I had originally assumed.

I got a Guide on Monday after switching to 21” last Wednesday. I got a VIN on Monday (9159) and I already scheduled flatbed delivery to my house for next Wednesday. I’m assuming the truck is either already at the SC or will be there soon.

Does anyone know if an R1S reservation holder ever received an invitation to the shop for an R1T?

Nope. You’d have to flip to R1T to try and spin the wheel.. but I am super pumped for when all the original 20” AT ressys won’t take what’s coming off the line for R1Ss. Hoping and praying it makes the R1 shop move a lot faster for R1Ss.

Only able to see your own region.

I’m not 100% sure. I think you see things in your region (eg a truck at the SC) and things in Normal that are eligible to be sent to your region. I picked one from the shop and it was still in Normal, per my guide. Been waiting 2.5 weeks for it to show up in CA.
