Dang. Looks like I’m 30 min behind you guys. Of course I started 85% in Sandy so I’ve got plenty of juice to get to Bend

Madras is Rivian country today. Just after I posted I drove past a green R1T heading towards Hood on 26 but that may have been @mgc0216 heading back to PDX. Another green R1T at the charging station with a pop up trailer and a kayak on the roof. So at least 4 traveling through. Rivian needs to get that RAN station finished up ?

Nice little drive through the forest and over a lava field, very cool. Found a nice quiet butte I could drive up and camp with a view of the sunset over south sister.

Was not me. I had to head easterly over to Monument for a memorial service. I was going to go run up on Hood on
my way home tomorrow but may hit the expo instead.

I'm curious about the reactions, if any, you got from the ICE overlanders about your Rivians at the Overland Expo in Redmond, OR last weekend?? So many of them are into "their builds" and rumble of the engines that I have wondered what they would think if I pulled up in my Rivian. ?

I'd also like to meet up with a group of BEVs for an easy overlanding trip! Due to our range/charging limitations, we'd be able to plan a route that would fit our needs.

I had a few people ask me about it in the parking lot, I also talked with a lot of the vendors and they were all interested in what I thought of it. Also there was a white R1T with a camp kitchen at the Dometic booth.

In addition GM had a Hummer EV on display and I was talking with one of the van builders about building all electric adventure vans and he disclosed they wanted to be the first to bring one to market, and mentioned they had actually talked with Rivian and MB about supplying vans.

So definitely a lot of acceptance of EVs at the expo but I am sure still a lot of ignorant opinions if you asked enough people.

My reactions were generally very enthusiastic and a lot of people I talked to had reservations. It's a bit self selected because it was people who saw my camp setup and chose to come talk to me, but I didn't get any trolls really. I did see a lot of the typical disinfo ("worse carbon footprint than ICE" / "powered by coal anyway" / "can't tow") but people were vastly more positive than negative.

The "not a real truck" crowd mostly keeps to themselves outside of all their posturing on Instagram/YouTube comments. It is worth having a sense of humor about the range topic and being realistic that it's not the right truck for e.g. super frequent long haul towing right now. I tell people that it's incredibly capable and has more than enough range for my needs including serious adventure driving in the Northwest, but it requires extra planning and a tolerance for some headaches today. Newer battery chemistries and charging network buildout should cover a huge portion of typical use cases over the next five years.

I did a mild offroad course at the expo and folks were super impressed with the truck's performance. The course wasn't anything crazy but the R1T absolutely made a mockery of it - none of the obstacles were even a hiccup (traction with two wheels in the air, clearance challenges, spotting challenges, articulation challenges, etc. - the suspension, quad-motors, and cameras made short work of all of them.)
