I was never contacted about changing from OC with my R1S with an Oct/Dec delivery timeframe despite getting an email. I guess I should've changed it myself and assumed them reaching out meant just email?
At the moment switching a R1S from OC to black will not help since they aren't making the R1S in any color right now.

I don't think they are contacting people with R1S asking them if they want to switch to R1T, which is the only thing that would get you your truck anytime soon.

I dont love how this sounds for us R1S preorder holders...
Yah. If my Rivianspeak translator is working it sounds like the 2022 R1S is dead…

On the bright side, for those with price locks, inflation is on our side!?

Like everyone else here, I got the R1 Shop email a little while ago. But, about about an hour prior to that, I got an email from Rivian titled " A Seamless Process to Purchase Your Rivian" that apparently didn't go out to all? I thought maybe I'd hit the lottery to get my R1T sooner than my Oct-Dec window, but then the R1 Shop email comes through.....so who knows :like:

Honestly though, I've made a lot of peace with just waiting - I have no doubt my 1st half 2023 R1S might be 2nd half (and late in it) at this point but seeing all the growing pains and the pace of software updates - I've realized I can wait and I'll end up with a much better vehicle for it. Engineering/manufacturing tweaks will have been discovered and applied, the software for the vehicle tand the app will have had over a year to grow and mature. The service center employees will be better experienced, delivery process will be better handled and more streamlined. Everything about the experience of having and owning the vehicle will actually be better from the very first moment, rather than living through a year+ of:
"my front drive unit died after 40 miles"
"what is this blue fluid leaking out everywhere?"
"Why am I losing 10% battery over 24 hours with the vehicle in the garage?"
"Phone as proximity key sucks so I just disabled it"
"where is kneel mode?"
"where is snow mode?"
"The onboard navigation sucks..."
and so on...

Yes, there will still be issues and features missing, but there will be far more for "me" on Day 1 than if I got the vehicle today or even in 6 months. I've found very little joy in obsessing over WHEN I get it - I just watch and wait. I don't give a single f$%k about being one of the first people to spend 30 minutes setting up some artfully posed aesthetic shot to get internet asspats before Rivians become commonplace. I just need to replace my current SUV with a new SUV. It's just a car at the end of the day, a tool. I expect delays, and I'll be happy when it's my turn, I'll be happy if it's sooner rather than later, but I'm not going to obsess over it or give into FOMO - all I'm missing out on at this point is a lot of growing pains

Overall, this is an improvement. It certainly isn’t what everyone wants but I think this is closer to the best Rivian can do in the current situation. I also like that early reservation holders MAY get a better shot at getting their R1T this year.

I'm taking solace in the fact that I also have reservations for the Chevy Silverado EV RST and the GMC Hummer EV SUV because I feel this is going to take longer than my original "first half of CY2023". ?‍♂
I hear ya brother. I’m in the same boat with the Silverado. I really do wish I hadn’t cancelled my Lightning reservation. I did that after Rivian promised delivery by the end of 2022. I had a very early Lightning reservation, so there was at least a decent chance I could have gotten my truck this summer.

Even now, after all the PR debacles, they still can't get an email communication right. And this from the supposedly much better Tony Caravano.

Just say, clearly... "R1S preorders will not be delivered until 2023 - at the earliest".

among other things, this doesnt bode well for investors. means theyre probably not going to hit 25K orders by end of 2022, unless they decide they really want to focus on ramping the T and the S they forget trying to ramp up, just trickle a few out. maybe that will help get them to 25K but doubt it now.

notice how they are trying to dispel the "Rivian lottery" narrative? "We tested this approach with customers across a spectrum of preorder dates to ensure it would be valuable". uh... yeah sure. why would you need to test this across a spectrum of preorder dates? you screwed early order holders with your disorganized inventory/delivery scheme (or just desire to make more $ on post 3/1 prices) and now this is CYA.

Yeah. I saw that buried in there. I wonder if that is just a poorly worded way of saying those items are still not shipping so you won't get them with your r1 shop config either. Or if they are really making people forgo the cheaper pricing on those to use the r1 shop. I suspect the former based on their last few communications being ambiguous.
Good point. I read it as if you lose the pricing, but what you said about not yet shipping makes a lot of sense and hope that's the case.

Hopefully, an R1 Shop customer can let us know soon.

I actually had my First Mile drive this past weekend and got a little heads up this was coming. There was actually an R1T there they claimed I could buy. Owner backed out or could not obtain financing or something. We used to call such cars "orphans" back in the early Nissan LEAF days.

Anyway, it pretty close to the current configuration of my 8/2020 reservation (I made a second R1S reservation in 11/2021): R1T, Max pack, Rivian Blue, all terrain tires, Adventure, Ocean Coast. The "orphan" had the Large pack and Black Mountain. I told them I'd buy it on the spot. I really wanted a light interior because I live in a hot climate, but the ventilated seats made a huge difference. They referred to me to customer service and said I'd have to wait for an invitation, but they'd make notes in my account. I'm sure there are others with earlier reservations who might be able to jump on this and I hope someone does.

I'll keep waiting patiently.

R1s delayed to 2023... which i figured. I wonder if it is ocean coast to 2023 or the oct-dec delivery estimates or both

Although I'm certainly not optimistic, this email does not say the R1S won't be delivered until 2023.

It says that some R1S preorders are going to pushed back until next year, but it definitely doesn't say all of them are pushed back.

I'm not one to frequently defend Rivian's production failures or lack of communication, but I think you are misrepresenting the message in the email.

Not sure I get this logic. Why would focusing on one versus both make them less likely to hit their number? They clearly have way more than 25K orders for R1Ts. I suspect they are more likely to hit the number if they punt on the R1S than if they try to do both.

The very fact we are on forums debating this shows you what a turd of an email that was. I'm not declaring that R1S deliveries are all moved to 2023 (although that is what I strongly believe the email is saying)....my point is that there is no reason the email leaves room for that debate.

They intentionally word things ambiguously. An infuriating bunch of pencil pushers the lot of them.

Agreed. They can just as easily (easier honestly) produce 25k R1T and EDVs without a single R1s going out the door. They can still hit "the number". Obviously it'll look better if there's a mix of R1s deliveries in there, but money is money and getting paid for R1Ts is just as good as getting paid for R1Ss so as an investor, I just want them to ramp and show continually decreasing loses on continually greater sales - I don't care if they're selling widget A or widget B, just make something and sell it at an increasing pace
