Here is an article that Rivian said that the trucks were designed from the start to upgrade to 800 volts.

https://www.greencarreports.com/new...-upgrade-2022-production-plan-halved-to-25000
I do not think you read the referenced article. It says it is designed in a manner that when the hardware is available they can start using it without needing to redesign everything. It is not saying the hardware in the 400 volt architecture vehicles will be able to do 800 volts.

Actually I did read the article, I didn't say anything about hardware. I just stated how Rivian said their trucks are made.

Forgive me if this answer is within the 16 pages of posts, but I didnt' see it in there, nor can I figure out how to search just this thread.

I don't see anything that looks like fold-flat seats in the owners manual. The images I see make it look like seats can fold, but don't go flat against the floor. Did I miss something or is this something Rivian gave up on?

Folds flat, relative to the aft cargo area and not to the floor of the 2nd row seating area (where your feet rests).

Does that clarify your question? Otherwise, I don't understand what you are asking for....

I believe so. I thought they did fold flat to the floor. RJ had a video he shared a while ago of him lying down in an R1S that showed it being completely flat adn they advertise it as nearly completely flat. That image in the owners manual and your description doesn't make it sound nearly completely flat

As of the latest intel available, the 3rd row seats do NOT fold flat, there is about a two inch ridge created by the base of the seat when folded forward. The 3rd row seats are level/flat with the backs of the 2nd row though.

We may have the same impression but just articulating it differently.

This is my understanding of the R1S seats ability to go flat which is based on a Twitter video RJ posted in which he was laying down and said the back is nearly flat. I think it was quoted as a 3 degree rise but mostly flat as in if I were going to load the R1S with drywall, there wouldnt be a large ridge for them to teeter over like a see saw.

Am I wrong? That sounds crazy...when was teh last time some guy you don't know on the internet write something that is wrong...it can't be

I've seen in Rivian Stories (see youtube) videos where it's about a 2" lip on some vehicles and completely flat on others (RJ's for example). I'm seriously hoping it's 100% flat front to back because I want to be able to sleep back there (bed designs are already in my head). A hump would kind of ruin that ability.

Aside from that issue, the manual has certainly made me feel a lot more ready to drive!

*goes off grumbling about no max pack, now no flat cargo, what's next*

No, the RJ video is an old design and it's now much different.

F*%K!!

Well that sucks. I will need to see some updated pics then. I really thought I followed this stuff, but I missed this. I feel like a failure.

Ahh thank you. I can live with that. I know from experience that a small lip lke that can be a huge pain when trying to load big things, but overall that is pretty good for moving lots of stuff.

You really saved the day with that pic.

The biggest pain, pun not intended, is when you want to sleep back there camping. A mattress would even it out some, but not entirely. For disclosure, this was on Rivian Stories and is reported to be a "production" version, but no way to really verify.

The accessory rails could be interesting. That's likely the mechanism for the future camp kitchen, which would have some sort of platform that could then slide it out the rear.

Skynote mentioned that he thought the cargo loadfloor could move to different positions, so it could still be flat. The manual is not overly helpful.
