Pure speculation on my part, but steel is more typical, and way cheaper, but given the Rivian ethos, I wouldn't be surprised about aluminum. It probably depends upon whether the stock bumper has any crash-safety properties or is purely a cosmetic cover over a structural element. That's the way it was on my Grand Cherokee when I put in a winch bumper. Given that this is designed by Rivian, I'm guessing they have the winch designed to be mounted to the chassis, so that this is mostly just a cover, but again, that's purely speculation.

Both. Mostly steel, probably, for durability.

There isn’t one. The freespool is remotely controlled/electric.
The controls are integrated into the phone app.

I'd be pretty disappointed if they design the bumper in such a way that a $3k winch is the only viable option. I have the integrated electronics 9.5k version of this on my 4Runner at half the price.
