Ouch, hopefully some aftermarket rock slider options come out! Nice work breaking in the new truck! So you didn't do the last part of the trail that follows along the rock fins? Are you heading out of town tomorrow?
No I bailed when I had the chance, I was happy to have made it that far.

Taking the dog for a hike in the morning. Haven’t decided anything beyond. Probably head towards Colorado before the end of the week. If you want to geek out on the truck HMU.

Stop 1 - EA 350kW in Spanish Fork - Max of 219 kW
Charged 38 to 66% in 15 min 56 sec
Total 45kWh delivered
Do you remember if the HVAC system blasting when you were charging for this one? Thats cloae to 30% more energy than the SOC would indicate for thr battery. Assuming a typical 15% charging losses from your other sessions this had an additional draw of ~20kw! (Someone check my math too plz).

Sorry the truck got damaged! Hopefully the trail was at least a good experience of pushing your comfort zone that you got away from safely.

It was pretty warm here today, probably 80 at that stop but in Green River it was almost 90. So temp alone isn’t to blame. AC definitely blasting for both of those stops.

R1T on 34" tires vs 4runner on 35" tires with 17" wheels. I know, I didn't take the picture head on! It was nice to chat with you in Moab!

Day 4 Update:

Not much to say today. Stayed another day in Moab, camping in Sand Flats Wednesday night some free juice from the Moab charger. Went for a hike with my pooch to Corona Arch and had a quick meet and greet with @JeremyP to talk Rivian, solar panels and offroading.

Decided to book a room at the La Quinta for Thursday night to enjoy a shower and a bed, my backpacking tent shared with my dog was less the comfortable (my RTT can't come soon enough).

Off to Flagstaff today!

Day 5 Update:

Moab to Flagstaff:

Quick top up in Moab. Then first full charging stop in Bluff Utah. Also a free charger. I got about 70-75 kW out of it. Charged for 1h10min and added 76 kWh but I charged to ~91% so the last 10% or so throttled down pretty quick. I needed most of that 91% in conserve to get to my next charging stop in Winslow AZ. Was dealing with some wind in various directions.

Charge stop 2 in Winslow, AZ Walmart EA 350kW stall
Charged 13% to 71% in 37 min 8 sec, 86kWh delivered, Max 202kW

Driver+ didn’t like the first part I40 between Winslow and Flagstaff. It was seeing all of the road repairs and getting confused where the lines were. May have been a sun glare issue. If I cop was behind me he probably would have thought I was wasted ?

Final efficiency around 2 mi/kWh. Was going a bit slower (~65 mph) for some parts to make sure I kept a cushion of 30 mi of range.

Day 6 Update: It was a doozy…

Traveled from Flagstaff to just outside of Bakersfield CA.

Charge 1: La Quinta Williams AZ, EA 350kW
Charged 29-59%, 48kWh delivered, 16 min, Max 218kW
Charge 2: Kroger Kingman, AZ, EA 350kW
Charged 28-80%, 76kWh delivered, 37 min, Max 217kW
Incident 1: Took a rock or something and I have a chip in my roof!!!! :(. - I think It can at least be repaired so it doesn’t spread but we will see.
Charge 3: Walmart Barstow CA, EA 350kW
Incident 2: Unable to DC fast charge (A whole thread on that)
Charged up to 8% at a CP at 28kW (I was down to 3 miles of range)
Finally charged 8-70%, 90kWh delivered, 39min, Max 203kW

Note: I have been getting over 200kW at a lot of EA stations on this trip. I wonder if EA updated something?

Incident 3: My R1T wanted me to stop and charge at an EA station in Mojave, thing is it is not in service, there was a giant crane in front of them, it looked like one might be active but it was inaccessible. This station isn’t even on the EA app so Rivian should remove it. Due to a strong headwind I was getting below 1 mi/kWh for the stretch around Mojave. Thankfully there was a long downhill stretch coming into Bakersfield and I arrived comfortably at 20%

Charge 4: Bakersfield Plaza, EA 350kW
Charged 20% to 52%, 51kWh delivered, 20 min, Max 209kW

Every once in awhile you are hit by what seems to be something like an additional 15 or 20kw draw averaged out over the charging session and the charging overhead goes from like 15% to 30%. I'm guessing that's the cooling system, but holy hell that's a lot of power for hvac. Not sure what else it could be. Weird.

Also, am I going nuts? I swear you posted a link to the video of the trail section you bailed on, but now I can't find it.

When I was having trouble DC charging I was on a L2 charger (6.6kW) briefly, during that charge I was running the AC and I could hear the main fan (I assume for battery cooling) going on high at times. When it was all going I think the truck was using more the 6.6kW because I wasn’t actually gaining any battery.

You’re not nuts, I decided to delete it but will upload after I can stitch all of the videos together. I got 5-7 min of video.
