Just came back from test driving the iX M50 and the i4 M50, and I have to say Rivian has a steep hill to climb if they are going to convince me to buy the R1S.

If Rivian will not offer a test drive before I am in line to take delivery I am going for the iX. This vehicle is a polished, mature and technologically superior product.

At least you got to test drive it. Here in Oil Country, you have to drive 600kms in either direction to to see one. Even friggin Anti-EV useless Saskatchewan has one for some reason.

I contacted two BMW dealers and have heard nothing about them getting demos yet. Heck I put in build requests for both the i4 and iX with one of them.

Then you are not going to like that my dealer had two. One on display and one for test drive. I asked them how long these are on loan from BMW, and they said they are not on loan, but they bought it for their own inventory for test drives.

So, it looks like dealers will have to buy their own vehicles to offer test drive.

This is what Ford did when they introduced the MME, dealers had to buy their own if they wanted to offer test drives. And in all of Ontario only one dealer had one during the early days of the MME

The iX bugs bunny buck teeth are a deal breaker. Huge faux grill pretending to let in cooling air for a non-existent combustion engine on an EV?
BWM is the last manufacturer to follow the oversized grill trend introduced by Audi 18 years ago. BMW management must be under the delusion that they are following in Chris Bangle's visionary although controversial foot steps. He switched BMW from classic jelly bean style to compound curves, which the rest of the auto industry followed, i.e. exactly the reverse of what BMW is doing now.
If they are still running BMW 10 or 15 years from now, we can expect them to adopt Tesla's no grill style, and pat themselves on the back for originality.

What was the MSRP on the iX?

The one I put a build order in on was ~$93k and that was not fully loaded. I HIGHLY doubt I would go through with the i4 or iX. They seem nice, but don’t get me excited and make me want them. I’d rather get the R1T, or heck, just keep my ‘22 XC40 Recharge.

The one I put an order for, fully loaded, came in around 115K CAD.
I’m a big fan of the Straight Pipes on YouTube. They always report the price of cars in Canadian (but have the conversion to US on the screen…).

Hint received :)
My configured spec comes to 92K USD converted.

The iX M60 is actually very high on my list, at the level of the Rivian.

One big concern about the iX, and maybe you can confirm from your test, is that you don't have a hitch on which you can install a bike rack. At least the European models I saw (in Bjorn's video) only had this ball that folds underneat.

No bike rack option would be a deal breaker for me.

I looked at the M60 as well, but personally didn't feel like the price-performance-spec made sense to me.

I didn't check for a hitch, though it's something I would like as well. I will see if I get some time this week to pay a visit to the dealer to check it out.

It looks like the ground clearance of the iX 50 is 8 inches without air suspension. Does anyone know the ground clearance range with air suspension?
I’ve been looking for an ev with at least 8 inches of ground clearance and 300 miles of range, and less than 220 inches long. The iX 50 may meet that goal. Id rather have the truck portion of the R1T with the max battery (400miles) and greater ground clearance, but that is probably at least a two year wait.

The deal breaker for me is no grab handles on the iX.

I don't need them but I have family members in my car regularly that need them now.

My next car will definitely have grab handles.
