I had to talk my wife off the edge of getting an all black one (when we order). BLack shows all the dirt and sratches. She said that she wants the white one...which I am ok with. We currently have the R1T Gen1 in Rivian blue.

Yeah, I don't understand the R2 color palette, and the lack of any sort of red, like Red Canyon.
Especially since Red Canyon is currently in production for R1, same paint shop.

Thinking back to its recent near-death on R1, could be its soon to be replaced so why bother on R2? Thinking about the orange (‘Pacific Sunset’?) mirror caps & tow hooks on R3 concept, plus upcoming R2X, could be a clue…

I have a forest green R1T bc they had it in stock, and if I waited for the free LA silver, I'd risk loosing out on the $7500 rebate. Now I like green; it's my favorite color; I just don't like it $2500 more than silver.

Silver is great just bc it hides dirt so well, you can drive it dirty and hardly notice, whereas almost any other color and any dirt is immediately visible.

In the city, this silver will blend in with the surroundings, whereas my green will stick out, but in the wilds, silver will shine and my green will blend into the forest.

BTW, am I the only one that thinks the charge port door looks awkward/out-of-place? Maybe if they held the horizontal line to the fender it would look better.
I agree about the charge port...it is slightly awkward.

the history of the Silver car color is a fun and interesting one.
In the gentleman era of auto racing, early 1900’s, colors were assigned BY COUNTRY. France was blue, think Bugatti blue or Alpine, Italy was RED (Rosso Corsa or Racing Red), UK was Forest Green, think Jaguar green and Aston martin, USA was White with a Blue racing stripe (ever seen Ford. V Ferrari) and Germany was all WHITE (think Auto Union and Daimler-Benz)

In the run up to the pre-war period of the 1930’s, the Grand Prix Officiale put in strict WEIGHT restrictions for the racing cars, 750kg to be precise For an unloaded Vehicle.

It was a Grand Prix Sometime in the mid 1930’s, when the Mercedes showed up for its “weigh in” and was at 751 KILOS. ONE KILOGRAM OVERWEIGHT. Since it Couldn’t hit the sauna to drop some hydration, the race engineer instructed the racing team to SCRAPE OFF ALL THE WHITE PAINT and expose the pure unpainted underlying aluminum beneath. And it sneaked in at just UNDER 750kg!.

And from then on, the Germans or at least Mercedes Benz was using RACING SLIVER, unpainted aluminum or steel as their official country /coach builder color of choice..

Today, we have premium slivers, metalic, liquid silver, Lunar silver, QUICKSILVER (I especially like this one), we HAD LA SILVER (from Rivian, that is what this was to be called, and they changed it to Eskar Silver. I think people didn’t realize it meant LOS ANGELES SILVER and not “La Silver” meant THE silver.. that would be have dumb ish.

This one does look nice, and for the “free” color, I do think it will stand out..

Personally I’ve had my silver cars, racing Porsches, Mercedes, and do prefer a bit more VERVE In the color category..

But this one IS nice. ;-)

I hear ya! I love the color -- my last silver car was a 2013 VW Jetta Sportwagen TDI. I loved that car, and rarely washed it because it never looked dirty. But I've never had a green car before, so Forest Green for me.
Another TDI owner!!! Mine was a red 2009 tdi sportwagon

Our previous silver cars include a 2004 Scion Xa and a 2001 Ram Quad short bed 4x4. We haven't owned a silver car since and it's yet to be seen if we'll own another since who knows with the Rivian ordering and delivery process being new to us.

Mine is a silver 2000 Jetta TDI. Still driving it as my main car after 27 years. 😂 That’s a long time in the same silver car.

Rivian offered a decent (token) trade-in value but I’ll try to find another home for it. Will be quite a leap from this to the R2.

Leasing Model 3 until R3X comes out, but now I have an R2 reservation as well.
So maybe I'll save myself $2k and get that instead of Borealis. Decisions, decisions....
It looks great. Thanks for posting.
Borealis will make you stand out on a whole different level.

“Purple cars are among the least common on the road, accounting for approximately 0.1% to 0.2% of all vehicles. This rarity is due to consumer preferences favoring neutral colors like white, black, gray, and silver [edit: and/or automakers charging ridiculous sums of money for alternatives to grayscale], which make up about 80% of vehicles.”

On the other hand, Esker Silver looks great. It’s darker than LA Silver, but will definitely blend in to most parking lots. It will also reflect more heat than Borealis, but not as much as Glacier White. Something to consider if you have to park outside and have sunny/hot weather.

I’d love someone to do a study on the amount of heat absorption based on the exterior color and the interior color of each R2. Throw in an R2 with a sun visor and a glass roof cover, too. The people want to know!

I don’t know where you live, or if you have to park outside for any length of time, but darker exterior and interior colors absorb a crazy amount of heat. White reflects the most heat.

This doesn’t just affect the comfort level of the interior, it can burn you if you touch the metal, it takes longer to cool the vehicle off, and it causes in-cabin heat protection to kick on more frequently, which uses more of the battery and can ultimately affect range. I’m not sure by how much, maybe it’s negligible, but I’d love for someone to do a complete study.

This really matters to people who have to park outside in the sun, can’t charge at home, and for people camping during sunny/hot weather where you want to conserve your battery.

Esker Silver is so much better than LA Silver. Honestly that one was a mistake by Rivian. It looked like cheap sheet metal. But then again maybe it wasn't a mistake because most people paid more for the optional colors.

This one has a much deeper tone and shadows, its going to have a much higher take rate. Which in the short term isn't good for their profit margin but long term will help sell more vehicles overall. I wish they had made Glacier White free as well.
