I have Tesla and an R1S (max pack) and the one thing that bugs me with the Rivian is the routing software.

however, this could be a user error so I wanted to ask the great minds here what I am doing wrong or need to do.

for example, I just did a long road trip and went to a Tesla fast charger. I stopped charging at 60% and continued my trip. However, the nav wanted me to stop again at like 38% to charge. I thought that was way too conservative and too soon and I could not figure out how to skip that charger and have it select one when until the car is between 10-20%. Any tips?

eventually my wife found one further up and had to add that stop and remove the other one and seemed like a pain.

You can set your desired arrival %. This will get you further inbetween charges. When you’re planning the route it’s the gear settings icon.

As far as I know, that's the only way to change charging stops while on-route.

Like @Mellowyellow mentioned, what your default arrival % is set to will be a factor as well. I'm comfortable enough with my truck that I have mine set to 10% no matter what I'm doing (freeway driving, towing, etc).

There is an option to remove all charging stops. It will then show your arrival battery percentage as potentially hashmarks if you would be below zero then you can go back and manually add the stop of choice.

mine is set to 10% as well. I have had a model y for 4 years so pretty comfortable with ev roadtripping. Love the big Rivian battery but still a few quirks and some new things I need to learn specific to Rivian.

Yes, that is what I did but is there an easy way to find chargers along route? I had to zoom out and move the map around and try each future charger to see what percentage I would be at. Then if it didn't work I would have to remove charging stop and start over. Seems like a pain.

Wish they added a simple function that you could say skip this charger and it would go to the next and so on until you found one that works for you. Or it just showed you a list of chargers on route with estimate range at arrival and you could select/change the one you stop at.

As a side note, we ended up stopping before we made it to the charger I selected for a bathroom break. We just happened to pull into a Sheetz and just happened to notice chargers their. They were Ionna i think? First time I have seen that and they worked great. Was also way cheaper than the Tesla one.

It's gonna be a matter if getting familiar with what chargers are available & knowing how far away they are (if this is a route that you will be traveling often).

Yeah, not necessarily I route I do often but a route that I know has a lot of good charging stops. It just seems the routing could be implemented better...maybe in a future update.

The electric charging market is full of “markup to Markdown” Games. Certainly avoid paying retail. For example, with the Tesla superchargers, a ~$12 month membership will get you a nice discount. Most vendors have similar programs except for Rivian. And the pricing displayed in the Rivian map does not reflect membership pricing for any charging vendor.

But I think my biggest complaint is the Tesla superchargers, which set the price based on the number of vehicles currently being charged. Which makes it very difficult to plan I had. Imagine if Chevron did this at their gas stations. There would be riots.

If you’re still road tripping Memorial Day weekend, all Ionna rechargeries will be $0.20/kWh from May 22-25.

The arrival % is only for your final destination. It doesn't apply to the possibly multiple stops you need to make along the way.

my set arrival % is 10%.
Were there more suggested charging stops between the suggested (@38%) and the final leg? I think the 10% desired SOC is upon arrival at destination. It calculates backwards from there. It isn't 10% upon arrival at every single charging stop.

That's what thought as well. They should also have a setting for charging stops.

Yes, there were a lot more charging stops between the 38% stop that Rivian told me to stop at and my final destination. I had to scroll along the route and click each charging stop and add it, wait for it to recalutate, and then repeat until i found a stop that said I would arrive at around 15%. Kind of a pain.
