Hey all. In the process of removing my rear seat. Documenting the steps here:
Tools I have used so far:
Needle nose vice grip
Staple remover
Breaker Bar
Impact Wrench
15mm wrench
15mm impact socket
1. Remove the larger plate on each lower seat section to expose the wire harness for the seat. (Credit to @Forager for this step)
2. Unclip the wire harness. I used the needle nose vice grip for this.
3. Pull of the clips from above the hinge on the lower portion. I found prying from the bottom corners was effective, you have to pull hard. This exposes the 14mm bolt attaching the seat bottom. There are two on each side.
4. Remove the 4 bolts. To pull the seat out there is a clip they goes under the trim you have to menouver out but it’s not physically attached.
5. I tucked the cable harness under the carpeting where the hinge attached.
6. Remove the headrests on either side (center one can stay). Remove the bracket along the bottom.
7. Remove two bolts behind the head rests (14mm)
8. Remove Nut on both sides (the shiny one).
9. Remove the center bolt on the bottom
Note: The bolts below the seatbelts do not need to be removed, I have not checked what effect removing the seat belt has.
10. Two wire harnesses on either side to disconnect
11. From here you can pull the seat.
Next step for me is to finish the space but I will continue that on my build thread (in my signature). If anyone has a suggestion for some finishing material, some kind of lightweight composite material maybe.
Information:
40 section of the lower seat weighs about 13 lbs
60 section of the lower seat weighs about 17 lbs
Seat back weighs about 50 lbs
No dash warnings of any kind, only issue is the rear heated seat will no longer turn on.
