Great idea! I was thinking about trying to do something like this in the past, but I haven't been using my swing-arm since we got our camper.

Nice! What does the overhead view look like? I'm guessing you still get the error when backing up that something is in the way?

You can see with my generation one mount the angle is off a little bit, as it was originally designed for a generation two and our cameras are mounted at a slightly different angle - I believe we can fix this with a shim.

Can you share how this is wired or installed? Curious what it looks like if you remove or move the swing away.

If I remove the swing away, I would just put the camera back in the OEM location
I am lucky enough to be able to fit in my garage with the swing away attached so with this camera kit, I no longer need to even think about removing my swing away.

If I needed to remove the swing away, I would have adjusted my cabling to have a camera coax connection just inside the tailgate in this picture. As a note that connection does not exist since I don’t plan on removing the swing away.

Below are a couple shots of the routing, no weather seal is crossed, so no risk of introducing leaks

This should work for it - the angle the tire is mounted at with the DirtCom is quite close to the Rig’d. As the tire hub is the mounting point the type of mount is not terribly impactful. Now there are some other mounts that do not angle the tire at all; and the camera mount would need to be shimmed to accommodate that change in angle.

Thanks for the post @Polar and for helping with development as well as being a guinea pig! Glad to see others interested. Happy to answer any questions on it. I am that other ECRC member. :)

I’ll be sure to make some more posts on this as we make them available for people (it’s in the works). The link above is a good place to signup for interest and updates on availability.

How easy is it to remove the camera from the own position?

It’s mentioned in the survey, but since I don’t always run with the tire swing, would be awesome to have a quick disconnect/swap to change between the center cap mounted camera and the stock camera.

For the R1S it’s about 10 clips and 2 screws. Pretty easy to access imo, @Polar also had a pretty breezy time I think. It’s the same on gen1 and gen2.
On the R1T, though, it’s a bit more difficult. More clips and more screws. We are still trying to see if there is an easier way to do it, but regardless, it’s definitely doable.
