I wasn’t sure how the Rivo would tow the boat so I held on to my F250 - until today. Bye bye F250; I enjoyed the time we had together but it’s time to move on.

As much as I love the combination of Limestone, Ocean Coast, and dark wheels, the temporary hood ornament (with caliper-matching compass yellow beak) makes me love it even more. Thanks for sharing!

Our boat is 20' and the R1T hardly even notices it back there. It starts off the line like it's not towing anything, rides smooth and brakes just easily as normal.

Only thing they need to do is enable the 'over the bed' cam so we can see which way the stern is swinging when backing down a steep ramp.

Our previous tow vehicle, a Honda Pilot was passable for that purpose, but overall I'd rate it as a 5 out of 10 for towing.. I rate the R1T as a 10 out of 10 for short distance towing!

Looks great!

x2 for awesome performance on towing. I trailered my jet boat 500 miles home from NorCal last month and actually had a pretty easy experience. RAN chargers that accommodate pull through certainly helped. But even at the EA stations people were generally pretty accommodating.

The EA station in Kettleman is a bear though. Backing out was not my favorite. It occurred to me about 10 minutes in that I could actually likely have pulled up in the dirt lot behind the EA station and made it work. Perhaps for next time.

@Glongo any word on Mammoth Lakes DCFC? Major bummer there are 0 options up there besides campground which is a no go in the winter.

Cheers

Completely agree. This boat clocks in around 6k+ lbs so I notice it but the Rivian has 0 problems pulling. Also the ramp was muddy and not a squeak out of the tires on the way up the ramp! This boat is not destine for long road trips, so range is also not an issue for me.

Seatosummit: that’s a cool boat. What powers it?

The access not the frequency to charging makes towing my boat a non starter for me (for now). Getting stuck in a tight spot or waiting for a pull through is concerning enough to not try. Perhaps if I had all day to get to point B maybe…

Nothing on Mammoth To my knowledge. But honestly I haven’t really researched to see if Rivian has even been poking around there. Strategically the need for it diminishes when the tesla partnership? on charging protocols is fully integrated. They are predictably preoccupied with selling, building and delivering vehicles I suspect. It does seem to be a logical town for it. I see so many Rivians visiting. Maybe the Bishop Rivian station satisfies their initial infrastructure strategy. If you are leaving Mammoth and going to points south it is mostly downhill to Bishop. But if you were heading north or had a late night drive up on a Friday, It would be nice to top off the battery in town for exploring around.

Maybe I just want to charge at a Rivian-only station before they fully open up - ya know, have that smug look on my face like all the tesla drivers!

also: thank you Rivian for installing in inyokern and bishop !!! Great locations for many of us.

Its an early 90s Sugar Sand "Mirage" -- passed down from my partner's grandmother who apparently used to rip around in it. Love the 90s Taco Bell cup stylings.

Its has a 120HP 2-stroke Mercury Marine engine. I refurbished it last summer and have been having fun the few times a year I manage to get it on the water. Maintenance on the two strokes are not my favorite.

I've towed a lot with the truck (maybe 3k miles of the 25k I have on it?) -- you are right that patience is important. I've never been stuck, or even really had to wait, but I have had to get "creative" with positioning relative to the dispenser.

The Bishop RAN is great, and I am sure that you don't have any issues if you have L2 at home. As a visitor that is usually in a condo though, its a bummer, especially in winter. I think I charged up to something like 80% in Bishop in expectation of no charging in town. CHP shut down 395 south on the way out, so the SOC dropping while sitting static was a little unnerving. Once you are rolling, Bishop only takes a few percent SOC given the elevation drop.

Tesla SC will make like easier, but it will be open to everyone, so I'm sure it will be a little bit of a zoo. Just seems weird that no other operators have moved on building infrastructure there. Seems like a slam dunk for high usage.

Is that a 22LSV or a 23LSV? I have a 23LSV and towed it around with my R1S (identical to yours except dark 22's) and it was fantastic. A little bit of side to side wiggle over speed bumps, but other than that, it felt pretty solid. My normal tow rig is a 21' Duramax Escalade which is great for long trips but I would happily use the Rivian for short trips to the lake.

My R1T tows better than any vehicle I’ve owned (Tahoe, F150, Suburban, Bronco, Q7). So much torque and a heavy vehicle that makes you forget about the 5000lb boat behind you.
