Hi Brian,

We’ll be removing the R1T Quad-Motor + Max pack from configurator soon. Once we've removed this specific option combination, we’ll migrate your preorder to our enhanced Dual-Motor + Max pack so you have the battery and drive unit configuration that most closely matches your existing order and specifications. From there, you can reconfigure to any of the options available to you, if you’d like.

No action is needed on your end for now. We plan to share a refreshed delivery window estimate with you in late February after we’ve updated both configurator and your order. We appreciate your patience as we evolve our product offering. To learn more about why we’re making these changes, feel free to visit our Support Center

Have to say I'm getting real sick of these "update that we're going to update you later" emails.

in this particular case, the configuration migration was certainly important to communicate. And since the refreshed delivery window will not come until late February instead of late January as for non-max pack configs, I think it was also important to communicate that (otherwise people would complain the end of January that they didn't get an update on their max pack config).

I got a similar email just now, but with an update to my delivery window telling me really nothing - I guess I have to remind myself we are probably much more informed then the vast majority of people buying these trucks being on this forum.

Hi ,
Your estimated delivery window is scheduled to be updated at the end of January. Because you’ve already confirmed your configuration and delivery address, no further action is needed. Be sure to check your Account Page toward the end of this month to see the latest.
We’re excited to share our progress, and if you’re curious about how often we update estimates or what impacts delivery timing, feel free to visit our Support Center.

I mean I guess they are communicating the things they said they'd communicate...

From the last max pack e-mail:
...
At this time, no action is required on your part. We simply wanted to notify you early to make you aware. We plan to reach back out in January with details on updating your configuration and when you can expect your delivery timing estimate.
...
Look for an email in January with next steps.

I just got the same email from Rivian. This **Once we've removed this specific option combination, we’ll migrate your preorder to our enhanced Dual-Motor + Max pack so you have the battery and drive unit configuration that most closely matches your existing order and specifications** in itself is good to know moving forward. Glad they sent this out.

I don't have max pack but also got an email saying my delivery estimate would be updated end of january (as I was already expecting) and that since my config and address were confirmed, no further action was necessary on my part. I would say this is overcommunicating but given the number of folks here who started complaining January 1 about the lack of delivery date update, it seems not.

I wonder how long you can delay your order for, at this point? Tbh this is no longer the truck I want, after they've stripped all the options out of it that made it useful to me. But maybe if I wait long enough, they'll bring back the gear tunnel shuttle and add Android Auto. ??

Why not work all these estimations into the dashboard. Why even have the dashboard if they're able to provide more accurate information via e-mail or on a response to an inquiry.

Yeah, I'm going to be struggling with what to do. My original plan was to swap my Launch Edition R1T for a Max Pack Adventure R1T sometime in 2024, but I don't really think that makes sense at this point.

We'll still be going through with our R1S order, of course, but I don't need a 3rd Rivian. ?

I'd like to keep the 3rd preorder in case they ever come back out with an extended range R1S. We'd much rather have 400 miles of range in the better vehicle for road tripping.

I really have to wonder what's changing between my launch R1T and the max pack truck. I'm guessing there are going to be mechanical incompatibilities between the two packs, so it wouldn't be possible to just drop the packs out of both trucks and swap them, even without considering the software differences. But man am I going to be tempted to try it if they haven't announced the updated quad+max by then.

Well, they haven't yet told us anything that isn't currently or won't soon be reflected in our accounts. I guess they are just trying to set expectations so that people have explanations for why their quad motor max config mysteriously becomes dual motor max and know more precisely when to expect those changes to appear. Those of us here are (generally) well informed but not everyone pays so much attention (again referencing that population here who started complaining Jaunary 1 that it was January and no updates had been communicated).

I'd love an e-mail that explains why they can't do quad+max instead of it just being a "not happening". Payload limitations, mechanical differences, changes in how they planned on designing the pack due to issues that came up in testing, whatever the reasoning is. There's no way it's just a "we just don't want to do it".

I provided similar feedback to some people I know within Rivian. My original deposit (2018) was intended to order a Max pack...I stuck with this configuration for a long time and thus missed out on the LE. Finally, after reading between the lines in conversations I switched to the Large pack. I continued to ask, how do you get past the GVWR limitations? Is the Max pack going to have a higher rating to offer a decent payload? Who wants a 400+ mile Off-road truck that you can only carry 4 people and zero gear? Honestly, I think Rivian can do better than the poorly delivered communications coming from Tony.

I'm okay with the communication, more is better. The telling part of that will be the delivery ETA, once the dust settles. Then being able to hit the delivery dates (once promised.)
That I assume will be a retooling at some point along the assembly line with I hope a number of other evolutions/fixes.

I'm 50/50 on the quad motor, not a deal breaker for me. Phantom drainage needs to be resolved though, otherwise paying more for a large battery that self drains/discharges, doesn't much make sense.

Ford Lightings don't have phantom drainage, nor have I seen any other major issues in this regard from other EV's. My Hyundai KonaEV has negligible drainage even if parked for 2 weeks.
