So on a long cross country trip home, out of boredom and curiosity, I selected conserve mode and shut off the AC to see how much efficiency I could achieve. The lights came on and off (somewhat getting dark and raining), the music did play and the wipers wiped. We also had a heavily loaded cabin and frunk with 2 adults.

I hit 3.29 average as a high-really high for me since I tropically get around 1.75-2. It’s a 24 R1S Q w/22’s and roof rack.

I also used Tesla chargers mainly, A-Z adapter with no drama. Somewhat pricey but had no range anxiety. Ordinary, she’s thirsty.

Just a time passing/mind saving activity!

I missed the ac.

Thanks for the report. That's a super high efficiency. When I can break 2.0, I'm happy. I really need my a/c.

Drove 250 miles at 75mph the other day and averaged 2.3 mi/kw. Rivian's trip calculator was so confused. It initially estimated I would arrive to my destination with 10 miles to spare, but it read 57 at the end of the trip. That's in a quad with ATs

I find I’m usually in the 2.0 range as well but on trips the battery has a chance to run at optimal temperatures. First 30 minutes or so for the day numbers were always lower.

2022 R1S quad with 22s.

This is the overall for the trip, on open highways I used conserve in low/moderate with driver+. All other driving is All-Purpose Standard/Moderate. Speeds for the trip was usually set at 2 mph over speed limit except for the areas with speed limits of 80 and 85, going over 78 seems to be a big hit on range. I did use the AC for the entire trip.

You know those people who don’t know how to keep consistent pedal force in an ICE vehicle? Instead, they accelerate, let go of the accelerator, accelerate, etc.

I could see you flooring it, regen, floor, regen, etc down a highway, just for the thrill of accelerating. ?

I’m not saying that’s NOT something I might do, but this is about my swamp ass on a rainy day with OP refusing to turn on the AC.

I’m having flashbacks to the smell in the van my college let our rugby team borrow for a road trip to a tournament ?

Reminds me of my college roommate and his white bedsheets. With no A/C in our dorm room, summertime temps ~100, his sheets turned yellow over time. Despite him repeatedly trying to convince us that’s just nightly sweat, we always gave him a hard time that he still peed his pants. Good times.

Crazy enough, that can be more efficient if it runs the ICE machine at a more efficient rpm.

When I was young, my friend’s dad drove like that in his Camry while we sat in the back seat. It drove me nuts and was annoying AF. I don’t think he was optimizing anything but my agony.

Many years later I also learned he got his first oil change after like 200K miles… those cars were ridiculously tough for no apparent reason.

Rivian's trip calculator is always underestimate the remaining. We drove from buc'ee in temple to dallas last week which is 140 miles . (100 miles of them at 80 mph or more). We have 230 miles when started. At first it said we have 47 miles when we get home but ended up with 80. DM large r1t.
That is 10 miles off with that speed !!!

What was the elevation change during the journey?
I drive a route frequently which is a long slow slight grade. Most people don’t even realize it. But huge difference between the westbound and eastbound journeys in efficiency. 1.5 vs 3.9
