Astonished!
Just received an estimate to repair the drivers side rear quarter panel, tailgate shell and rear bumper. Luckily the damage was caused by a neighbor who bumped my R1S during the holidays.
Estimated Repair Cost: $49,880.
The shop is the 1st authorized Rivian Repair Facility in the Northeast. They’re a quality outfit!

I’m flabbergasted! I hope I don’t get into an actual accident!

Oof....steep! It'll get totaled out once they dig in at the shop, most likely.

I looked at the pics before I read you had an estimate.. I was figureing on $52000..

So yah.. Its going to be a crapshoot on whether they total it or not.

Hoping not... We have seen this damage on the forums here before, and the estimate, with no tailgate damage, was $42k.

I wonder what percentage of new R1 sales are associated with insurance claims vs actual new customers?

This doesn’t seem sustainable, insurance companies are going to raise their rates 2x what they are now. Are Tesla’s this expensive to repair?

It isnt sustainable... But thats Rivian for you. You cant just replace a quarter panel, nope..

You got to replace the whole side of the truck, from the windshield all the back.

Its one of the things that makes Rivian owners scratch their head.

They couldnt just go with the industry standard and have panels, with split seams, welding, and sealant.

On the other hand, if you are rich, you get into a minor accident, theres a good chance you are just getting a new car. Soo....

I keep thinking how much better it would have been if those back corners were bumper material....

It's like a Rube Goldberg Machine for sales! Why hasn't anyone else thought of that sooner!!!

I hope R2 integrates reparability. It's not a mass-appeal vehicle if only R1 owners can afford the insurance...

Body shops are charging huge amounts for all vehicles lately it seems. It is forcing insurance companies to total vehicles that never would have required it in the past. It's really a stupid and unsustainable situation.

After watching those videos... I think your big hang up is going to be that the rear hatch, and bumper cover, needs repair.

This type of damage keeps coming up in the forum.
Some are being repaired with PDR.

There are often comments that the vehicle will be totaled but are there any forum members that have had a vehicle totaled for such little damage?

Just out of curiosity

How much money would it take you to live with the damage?

I imagine if I had minor body damage like that it would take less than $50K to live with the problem.

As long as its less than the retail hit then I'm fine.
