I did a double-take on this, as I thought it was the same person that re-posted for some crazy reason.

Haha, I know its probably been posted a million times but if a newbie like me posts it it'll come up in the newest feeds to help others having the same question. I apologize for my newbieness but when I saw these two wires unprotected just hanging there I was like, that's odd...hopefully I never have to use them. I think Rivian needs to figure out a much safer and easier way to just jumpstart these vehicles. How many tow truck drivers even know that you're supposed to jump the vehicle from the freaking trailer hitch? Probably not many. Anyways I am grateful for this forum, it has experts that know these amazing but strange at times nuisances of the Rivian. If anyone reads this from Rivian, please put a normal 12V jump system on these so the rest of the world can easily figure it out.

I am fascinated and saddened by the fact that people will spend $100k on a vehicle and can't be bothered to read the manual. I've had people tell me they never knew about a feature of their own vehicle.

Conversation I've had with multiple people:

"I don't know how to get there."
"Your car has navigation. Why don't you use that?"
"I never bothered to learn how to use it."

LOL! WTF? Dude, it's the safest way anyone has ever come up with to jump start a vehicle. There is ZERO chance of shorting it out, or polarity-switching. Do you know how many vehicles have been completely fucked or had a battery blow up because jump starting is so hazardous? There's almost nothing you can do to this that's going to be a problem. And most modern cars have the same general method since the doors/hood can't be opened without power.

It's already there. You can always open the hood and jump the battery.

Wait, the battery is dead so you can't open the hood? Like most modern cars? Oh, riiiiiiight...that's why there's another way.

Well, there's a social element to "learning together," that doesn't exist if all we do is RTFM. In general I like to think that I read the manuals (at least to some extent) but some things don't register at the time, and others I might forget. Whatever the reason, I've learned a lot from reading these forums almost every day since I got my R1S three years ago. Let's not be too harsh on OP. I hope never to have to use that jump-start capability, but I'm glad it's there, and his post reminded me that it is.

You joke, but that's nearly true for a lot of Youtube tutorials. Also my most popular videos are on a medical topic where there weren't any "manuals" when I made them. But now there are, along with my video. And I get questions nearly daily that are in the video, but the person was apparently too lazy to actually WATCH the damn video!

I like to look at drone and 3D printing stuff, but so many are so ultra basic because people don't read the manual. It's harder to find things that are "things not in the manual" style.

So true. 3D printing forums/groups are particularly bad. A noob posts a question they could have easily found a gazillion discussions about ("Should I use Glue Stick?") and then a free for all of criticism, bad advice and counterpoint posts follows. I rarely visit or post in 3D forums anymore.

This morning on a 3D sub a guy said this:

The documentation says to replace them every 500 hours approximately. The printer display itself has a maintenance section that counts the service intervals, like cars counting oil change time. And yet, people manage to avoid all education then post this stuff. The job takes half an hour and costs $5 once you go through the included two sets of tubes. SMDH

I asked my wife what she'd do if she needed a jumpstart and couldn't reach me or anyone. She thought, "Well the owner's manual is right on the display right?"
