I'd really like to know how 2nd row car seats affect 3rd row access. VW Atlas had excellent 2nd row seat movement to allow easy 3rd row access. However, my new Volvo XC90 is awful. One of my older kids has to climb through the back hatch to access the 3rd row, and I really hope I don't have to do that in the R1S.
Yeah, the Atlas’ car seat friendly tilt is great… but a nicely split bench seat can work too. I had an Aviator for a while and 2P would still fold to access third row with Dionos in 2D and 2C: both front and rear facing. Hoping R1S will be the same.

Don't know if there are any better threads re: car seats at the moment so adding to this OG thread instead of creating a new one. Ultimately, unless you go with the Dionos, you aren't going to get the 2P 40% fold forward for third-row access config. Even then, I haven't seen anyone confirm.

I knew it wasn't going to work, but I tried popping two Nuna Ravas in and a Chicco OneFit / Chicco MyFit combo. Neither worked in 2C, 2D. Wasn't surprised. At the moment, I have the Chiccos on the outboard seats and the middle is pretty cramped.

Sometimes I wish I could move the second row further back. I don't think I ever had this issue in the Atlas, but the front passenger seat needs to move forward quite a bit even with the second row all the way back for a backwards-facing car seat.

Ultimately, what will likely happen is leaving the baby in 2P, toddler in 3P and hoping the 2nd row 60 bench of 2C and 2D can fold forward. Prefer this method to fold more of the second row forward for access. Also safer to buckle the baby in from the passenger side.

In addition, I hate that the headrests are technically not adjustable (though you can remove them with some effort). I threaded the anchor through the slot but just realized the manual actually tells you to go above the headrest. Are any of you actually doing that?

I went thru the slot like you did... seems like a good way to damage the headrest with their design. Not sure if there is something we are missing.

Thanks for this update. True I haven't seen many threads related to multiple car seats.

Damn... I was hoping to do 3 across but I knew it would be Impossible with 2 Nuna Ravas and a Nuna Pipa Lite. Wishful thinking...

Maybe I'll have to settle with 2 Dionas, or just throw the Ravas in the 3rd row...

Still haven't taken delivery but been trying to figure this out for weeks.

Just saw that the manual does it this way. Never had to see the manual. I push it through the middle like you do, works great.

Where do you put them? Third row? Second row?
Can second row move with car seats in them?

Thanks
Been struggling/figuring out a bit here, with 2 car seats.
Right now, one is in the middle row (front-facing). The other one is diagonally opposite in the third row (rear-facing). Seems to work since a passenger can get in with the base installed in the third row as well.

Had to put a seat in the third row for 2 reasons:

- I can’t sit comfortably in the driver’s seat with a rear facing seat. This was a surprise, and a bit of a disappointment, honestly.

- It’s hard for someone to sit in the middle of 2 car seats.

Hello! I pick up my R1S tomorrow. I have two littles now. 2.5 and almost 5 year old. Both Ravas. Our 3rd will be here in October.
My plan is to do oldest in back (front facing). 2.5 year old behind the driver and baby in the middle or vice versa. It depends if I can pull the seat forward enough to get the 5 year old into the 3rd row easily.

I’ll report back once I get everything installed.

I'm renting an R1S on Turo and I spent an a half-hour late last night trying to figure out this last night. We have three kids, 4, 2 (almost), infant. So we have the hulking infant seat with a base, Nuna Pipa. We have Graco 4-1 but I bought two Diono's in anticipation of trying three across but with the Diono rear facing for the 2 year old, it's so far reclined, it only fits behind dead in the middle which doesn't allow the Nuna to seat correctly. Or it goes behind the passenger and the front passenger seat is pushed way to far forward to be useful. More importantly, you can't move the 40% bench forward toa ccess the thrid row with the Diono in the middle. I have another day with this and am going to work with our two Gracos and the Nuna. I realize this is a 6 month problem and soon we can move the infant to a Graco and have more flexibility. But you almost end up having to abandon the latch system because you need ot flex.

I'm still on the fence about locking this in and this was a very big blow. Not giving up yet though.

I have 5 kids total, 2 in boosters in the 3rd tow, a rear facing behind the passenger seat in the second row due to needed space behind driver, then my oldest in the middle of the second row and a newborn in an infant carrier behind the driver using the seat-belt to anchor in so we can still easily access the 3rd row. Its definitely a tight fit with 7 people in the car, but it works for our needs when the mini van isnt practical or available.
