As you say, RJ certainly seems to indicate that ”10 or 11” kW AC can be provided by the R2. What mechanical/electrical form that will take remains to be seen. A new bidirectional Level 2 charger? A higher capacity Field Outlet? He also said they’re working on a DC bidirectional charger. I’m skeptical that they’ll get around to providing both in the near future, but I would sure like some high power solution, sooner rather than later. That said, I completely understand how developers like to hedge their bets with capabilities that might, or might not, come to fruition as a product, depending on market evolvement and resource allocation. Announcing those hedges too early or without a real plan to implement can frustrate customers, but calling them a scam, as someone did, is a bit immature.
The issue with NACS and J1772 is there is no neutral wire available to do 240V split phase power. So they can either only export 120V or 240V, but not both at the same time.

To make 240V work for typical home applications is going to mean needing an external transformer that can be center tapped for a neutral.

Personally I think that fact should have made the transition to NACS dead on arrival. IMO, the North American market needs that neutral wire.

I assume Tesla achieves this with Cybertruck with the Powershare Gateway needed for V2H and V2G?

Yeah, the gateway has an autotransformer in it. Which would be unnecessary if there were a third pin available for a neutral.

I am very interested in vehicle to home considering I'm under the outrageous (investor owned) SDG&E rates from 4pm to 9pm at 80 cents per kwH plus I had an Enphase 5kw solar system installed in 2022.

I realize we're looking at next year potentially for V2H so I'm looking for a bridge until the V2H capable Enphase chargers hits the market and the R2 gets a firmware update to unlock it.

Could the portable charger be used with a 240V outlet in the meantime?
At 80 cents per kWh, you may be able to justify a battery backup for the home just for time shifting. A 5-10 kWh system to hit 4pm fully charged, with just enough capacity and sustainable output to keep the home happy for those five hours.

Here, we have both peak demand charges (greatest power usage over a 15 minute period during peak rates) and the actual peak rates. However, that peak and demand usage together might only be like $450/yr, so I'd need like 25 years to pay off a battery backup for demand shifting.

Hoping planning, permits and unit costs go down in the future to help justify a battery.

But wouldn't you still need some sort of gateway to interface with the house and grid though?
It would just need to be a normal automatic transfer switch like a generator uses. If your house was set up for a generator, you would need nothing else besides plugging the car in where the generator does.

Yeah I have an interlock kit and a 50 amp generator plug inlet.
